Granted I wasn't born this long ago but who else remembers the Trenton Times being a late afternoon/evening paper?

I have a vague sense memory of 1929.I was going to be 4 years old two weeks from that paper's date 10/24/1929, on 11/06/1929.Very hazy memory but I know that my Father was hit and killed by a car, that year, as he was going to a Yankee game. No,I don't know the score but I can tell you this about the game. YOGI was NOT behind the plate .:baseball:

Are you really around 90?

Hey beaced,

What was the first Rutgers football game you can remember attending?

Also, did you go to Rutgers-Princeton games in the post-World War II era? Did they tailgate? Did Rutgers students paint the Rutgers-Princeton cannon back then? What were the pre-game campus build-ups like?

Here are 2 links to NY Times articles on the same subject:

The controversy was sparked by a Carnegie Foundation report which suggested that colleges were "subsidizing" college athletes to a point bordering on professionalism. The Carnegie Foundation report noted that about one out of seven college athletes received subsidies in the form of scholarships based on athletic ability, and in many cases the awarding of the scholarships was decided by coaches or athletic staff, not by the faculty.

It is interesting that the Carnegie allegations were refuted by NYU, the commissioner of the Big Ten (then known as the Western Conference), Stanford, Michigan, Alabama, Syracuse, Allegheny College, and Washington and Jefferson. On the other hand, Rutgers, Lafayette, and Ohio State said the report highlighted abuses and predicted beneficial results from the report. (Note that Rutgers was one of the schools indicted by the Carnegie report.)

Now I know where the term "if you want my two cents" comes from. That's what the newspapers used to cost.

Is that a known thing? Am I really late to the table with this one?

First one was the 1946 game against Columbia at Baker Field,NY.Lost 13-7 to a Nationally ranked team coached by the Legendary Lou Little.Ru was leading 7-6 at the half and by the expression on Little's face he was shocked and unhappy.Frank Burns was the QB,Harvey Harman the HC.

Survey of 130 Schools Shows One in Seven Athletes Subsidized--
N.Y.U., Fordham, Columbia, Harvard and Princeton Are Accused--'Slush Funds' and 'Recruiting' Indicted

Couldn't get second article...but was any of this linked to fictitious classes a la UNC, $ being negotiated for top recruits (see Cam Newton); money paid to parents for "housing" a la USC....death of students (see Notre Dame)- and No Penalties for any of these CURRENT or RECENT issues?
