While Rutgers is mired in a tremendous amount of negativity, turmoil and conflict amongst its fans with regard to wins/loses, QBs and coaches I found myself smiling this past Sunday morning. Why? As I was going through my Sunday morning routine, making my famous chocolate chip pancakes, my son (7) was in the living room doing his most recent favorite thing, tossing a football in the air and pretending to be a Rutgers football player. I hear him say “Its Rutgers ball on the 1 yard line with 1 second to play, hut HIKE! It’s a pass to Caroo and he catches IT he catches IT! Touchdown Rutgers and they win the game!” just after this happens my daughter (12) come strolling in the room doing that new hum thing while pounding her chest, my son quickly starts doing it as well. They were both at the Nebraska game; they were both at the Ohio State game. We are a Rutgers family, my daughters first game was at 18 months, my sons was 4 months, They have attended probably 95% of the games since 2008. My point of making this post is this; We all have opinions on what we would like to see this program do. We all have opinions on who we think is the best AD or Coach or QB, But I know for a fact that all is not lost on this program. There are thousands of kids who will grow up with the wins and losses of Rutgers football, but they will also wake up rooting for and supporting the kids who have chosen Rutgers and New Jersey, these are also the kids we should be supporting. There is one home game left this year, senior day. If you have tickets, get to the game, lets show these kids our appreciation for the decision they made in choosing Rutgers.
