Rutgers Hires Justin Price - Women's Rowing

Had stops at Notre Dame, UCLA and Loyola Marymount, though he seems to have little head coaching experience at the collegiate level.

Looks like the guy he's replacing (Max Borghard) was a holdover from the Gruninger era.

Looking at his photo, it's hard to believe that he has 10 years of experience in anything! But hopefully his relative youth will yield the energy and enthusiasm to light a fire under the program. It should be a sport in which RU could become competitive relatively quickly. We certainly have a longer tradition with crew than most of the country. I can recall when, as an undergrad (late 60s), crew - men only pretty much back then - was primarily an eastern affair, especially northeastern. Even when I was working at Syracuse (72-76), which hosted the IRAs on Lake Onondaga each May after the snow finally melted, that it was still largely a sport dominated by eastern schools, though Wisconsin and Washington would come and do quite well. But it was still almost entirely men. With Title IX, many schools added women's program, which is probably when RU did as well.

Good luck, Coach! I hope you bring many championships to RU.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome Justin to Rutgers," said Hobbs. "Justin has been part of the rowing community for over a decade, going back to his days as a collegiate competitor at UCLA. He is passionate about developing young people athletically, academically and in life. Justin has a plan for how we can achieve success and I look forward to working together to accomplish our vision for the Rutgers rowing program."

My father in law watches and enjoys crew, specifically Pac12 rowing. He says this is a very smart hire.

Turned UCLA'S women's program into one of the best in the nation in a short period.

His relative youth should also help recruiting efforts.

I wonder if he is any relation to Tom Price, Rutgers rower and Olympic Champion in the late 1950's.
