Podcast Rutgers Hoops Portal Scoop + Zach Sparber / Eric O'Neill Pressers

I haven’t watched GW play but your commentary on Buchanan seems a little exaggerated in the podcast. He averaged 28.5 mpg which was the second most minutes on a 21-13 GW team. I get that he didn’t start the last couple games but he averaged double digit points in the last 2 A-10 tournament games and still put up double digit points on the season for a decent team. If we’re aiming for a top tier post play and a top SG (meaning we’re willing to bid 7 figures for those 2 spots), I’d be ok with a kid with his numbers getting 6 figures. I’m just going by paper numbers though. Admittedly I have never watched the kid play. If his D is awful that would be a problem. But GW is a lot better than Eastern Michigan or NJIT. His stats mean more in my opinion. Including the rebounds.

If Francis is being considered for a package larger than what the frosh get this is a problem in my opinion. I don’t care how many points he put up in losing efforts for one of the worst teams in one of the worst conferences in D1. That one is not worth 6 figures of our budget.

This is scary bad. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so pathetic.

Based on the apparent low quality of these transfer prospects, It feels like the program is going backwards. If this is the best Pike can do, then the program is in real trouble.

The podcast certainly sounded like gloom and doom to me, but I refuse to accept these are truly our targets. Maybe Buchanan is being considered for slot number 3, but look - at the same time, the TKR guys (I forget which one on the pod) estimate that we’ll end up with close to 5M to work with.

The money has to go somewhere right? The plan can’t be to shell out 500k to Francis because he scored 19 for NJIT and Knight is a family friend. Seems like it could be a conflict of interest to give him much of anything actually. $2.5 M has to be slotted to get 2 established power conference players doesn’t it? Or is $1.2 M no longer enough to buy anyone decent? I wish someone had more answers in terms of the actual market.

The Quinnipiac Forward Amari Monroe is a priority target, but he’s also talking to UCONN, Miami, Ole Miss and Kansas. No shot we outbid those schools

Okay fine. So we’re going to lose the early battles to the big wigs until their rosters fill up. Wasn’t that to be expected? At some point, these teams are going to stop offering $1.2 M per pop because their rosters will be full. Mag was available in the summer. You can’t tell me there won’t be any established power conference guys for us to go after. The guys listed on the podcast might be “early” targets, but there should be no way that means “most expensive”. Right? What am I missing here? Technically - we have 7 spots. There’s nothing wrong with these guys being amongst the least costly of the portal slots that we fill. We have to go to bat with 7 figures for 2 guys or we’ll be horrible. That’s a given.
