Went to the scrimmage yesterday RU won 13-9 after 5 quarters, I believe that it was 12-8 after 4. UMass took a 4-0 lead on the back of 4 straight face-off wins (officially RU did not win a face off) you have e to remember that their top 2 face-off kids are not there,(1 is hurt the other is playing football). so after they started down 4-0 they went on a 12-4 run so take that for what it is worth. I thought the defense played pretty well and the goalie were pretty good, but it is the offense that could drive this team. BB made a couple of adjustments I they could pay off big time.
1- They moved Hollingsworth to starting attack, he and Bieda have a great chemistry as they have been playing together for 15 years. It was Bieda, Hollingsworth and Heninberg with Jordan being the first sub in
2- Trasolini was moved to the first Midfield with George and Murphy (this group had about 7 goals) This group looked very good.
3- there 2nd group was made up of Carotenuto (sp) Tolliver and Franckowiak (the freshman from Utah). This group had about 3 goals include 2 absolute rockets from Carotenuto.
there d-mids were smaller but very fast, it looks like Mazzone and Scarpello are the to best but Nicklaus and Divitcos played ok
LSM Sikora was very good leading transition and being very active on defense, behind him was Pless, he was pretty good and good off the ground.
Close- They have a couple of poles that are banged up. Gruel, Rexrode and Bronzo, they had a hard time with the the big kid from UMass but I thought that played pretty well after the 1st quarter.
Goalie Edelman started and looked a little shaky to start but some of that may have been UMass shot selection which I thought was very good. Kris has some real competition here as Edelman settled down an did not allow another goal in the half Alleyne has been banged up all fall and has seen his practice time limited so he looked pretty good, I was most surprised by Freshman Ayre who I heard was struggling all fall but he came up big today in the 5th quarter with 4 saves
Fo- this will be the biggest question mark going into the spring, they have to get this fixed and I have heard that they could be getting some help in the area for the spring. i.e. Transfer
Overall, a pretty good showing for the team as they played fast and looked to run in transition,
