Rutgers loss to Washington isn't looking so bad

Anyway you slice it...it was an UGLY loss...UW may be a playoff contender, but we were simply bad and severely outplayed

For those ripping on the OP, do you mean to say that you put no thought into the quality of the opponent, or the trajectory of the team's play across four quarters, or the fact that they were breaking in a new staff and offensive philosophy? Do you really only look at the final score?

It wasn't a good game by any stretch, but I'm more understanding of it given all that was at play.

The Washington loss was just another example of a top tier team manhandling us. This will continue until we put better players on the field. Hopefully, this staff will soon be able to do that. Patience will then be rewarded after a few frustrating years. :okay:

This. It's pure spin to suggest otherwise. I'm just glad the game was buried on the PAC-12 Network so most of the country couldn't see RU get humiliated.

Being cheap and holding onto flood for so long - sank this mid size ship program. We are starting over and back to infant stages. We're gonna get manhandled until we build this thing up

People were posting their evaluations of Ash as a coach at halftime of his first game.

Nice Spin John. Have you ever considered Politics as your next career?

some on this board (and on this thread) seem to be just fine with mediocrity which is alarming. No sense of urgency. :flush:

I'm hopeful about ash...the dude may take some lumps (UW)...but I think he'll take RU higher...(how rutgersAl of me!!!!)

Programs like Oklahoma, SC, and Mich. St. would have just cause to get panic-stricken if they were manhandled in a season opener. We, on the other hand, don't exactly have the pedigree and history to warrant such grief. As was posted above, it was a season-opener, across 3 time zones, with a new staff, against a top team.
Our expectation should be to show steady improvement throughout the season.

One game doesn't mean the season is over.
Changing from one offense to another takes time and against a quality D might
show some bad wrinkles.
If a lot of the players you have on roster are not truly suited for the offense you're running, even bad teams might look good against you until adjustments are made.

I don't expect much from RU this season because of what I mentioned above , but think I'll get a better understanding of how Rutgers is after seeing how they playt against the Lobos and then decide if RU's loss to Washington isn't a sign that this season will be a total disaster, but a product of the changes RU is making this season and the players
that don't quite fit in the offense Ash wants to use, even if it's tweaked to help them fit.

Ive said on this board that Ash and his crew needs 2 years before judgement but please dont tell me there was a silver lining in the first game. None of us are that stupid!

I get a kick out of these types of posts. What are you doing any differently with a sense of urgency that is helping the program get better than any other fan?

I think the point is that if Washington ends up being a top 10;team, one would expect they would blow out a 50-70 ranked team.

Yes I know thats the point. And its a stupid point. Getting beat like that doesn't have excuses. Just face the fact that we cant compete on that level...YET. People need to stop putting lipstick on a pig. It was rampant during the Flood era.
I'm ok with struggling to improve because it takes time. But don't tell people we should feel better about such a lopsided loss. Turn the page. Get over it

Our chances for national championship decreased from 1000-1 to 9999-1. There goes the title hopes

I'm surprised that you let some of these guys repeatedly trash our team and specific players and coaches on this board. Your board rules tell them not to do it. Hobbs is telling everyone not to do it. Yet they continue to trash our team and student athletes. What does it take to get banned on this site?

Some of you guys need a vacation in a warm place with a couple of hot Ukrainian hookers and a 5th of tequila. It was the first game of the season, on the west coast and with a new coach.
I'm sure you needed a vacation during the Tyrone Willingham era. What did you do after the 2008 season? Take a month off, drink 10 gallons of tequila, and hang with hookers from around the world?:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I think he revealed earlier he hooked up with a Russian woman who robbed him blind.

More like prozac. That was the worst.

did anyone REALLY expect to win this game?

Before game: We have a great shot at an upset!

After game: Let's be honest, we didn't have a chance. We are who we are. Rebuild season. Season doesn't count. Good bye cruel world.

I don't see anyone on this thread trashing the players or the coaching staff. This thread stinks as a reminder of the Floodies looking for a silver lining to an awful loss.
What this board needs is acceptance and patience.
This is a great coaching staff trying their best with players they didn't recruit and don't fit the schemes. It's not going to be a pretty year. We all need to accept that and believe the future looks bright. However the two things we don't need is calling Ash a bad coach after one game and threads like this making excuses like poor play is ok because of the competition . Both are ignorant.

You do not know "what the board needs".

The OP idea is perfectly reasonable.

Imagine Washington runs the table, makes the BCS playoffs. Maybe wins a game there. Looking back, wouldn't you say it was more reasonable to lose that badly to such a good team? That is all the OP is saying. Maybe you think we shouldn't think about stuff like that.. so what? Get over yourself.

Here's what I want to see the remainder of the eyar:

1) I want to see trying multiple QBs... developing players.
2) I'd love to see some players get MORE healthy and perform.. Hamilton, Turay, for example.
3) How about a game where you look at it and say.. wow.. the defense was really prepared. Perfect game-plan. (it may not even be enough to win.. just enough to show the coaches are good).
4) General improvement as the season goes on.

and non-game related...

5) something that shows the AD is getting stuff done re: complaints.. scoreboard too loud, RV parking sucks, Yankee Stadium game gets.. fixed... somehow.
