According to bobbleheads.com, the history of bobbleheads goes back over 150 years. Sometimes called “nodders” or “bobbers” the item was a novelty and in 1960, four major league stars were created with paper mache in Japan and sold during that year’s World Series. A Rutgers football player nodder was made in the early 1960s. The craze faded but returned by the end of the 1990s and grew in the 21st century because of new technology that can easily make a bobblehead of almost anyone. Greg Schiano was the first Rutgers head coach with his own bobblehead followed by Kyle Flood. Running back Ray Rice was also honored with a Rutgers and Baltimore Ravens bobblehead. Three bobbleheads of The Scarlet Knight have been made – the first in 2014. One has the helmet over the face.
