Edelman is coming back?! Awesome news! His leadership should help get the D up to speed quicker. B1G is gonna be loaded again next year.

He is. This is what I was alluding to a few weeks ago but didn't want to post until it became public. THis is huge for the program. Having him back will be a real plus due to the graduation of two defensive starters.

Hearing really good things about the incoming freshman Taub. I believe he is the best D guy in NJ this year.

Taub is phenomenal. I was at their loss to Bridgewater in the county final - the Watchung defense has been the best in the state.

Taub is the best Defenseman in NJ this year and Russo (BR defenseman) is not that far behind. While Watchung's Defense has been excellent all season BR's defense has been more of a work in progress but Russo was the glue that kept it together. (BR started a freshman on defense, that will be there next great defenseman)
Taub is special though as he can handle bot big strong attack man and smaller faster attackmen. He is surprisingly fast for the kid his size (6'2" i would guess) he has a really good stick as well, but the best part is that he has a bit of a mean streak in him when he is on the field.

Like all that, especially the mean streak.

Is Taub a short stick defenseman or a pole? Also is Russo committed anywhere for college?

He’s a pole. Close D. Getting the D best D guys in NJ is huge. The state pumps out talent at every spot, but D guys from NJ seem to do really well in college as a rule.

If you’re the best in NJ, you can play anywhere.

Coached against him. Unbelievable defender. Did a phenomenal job against our all time leading scorer. I think we did some things to get him out of his element but the kid is a stud (and just a great kid too).

Yale vs Duke NC will be a good one. I love power lacrosse, and Reeves from Yale brings the power. I'm surprised more teams don't use their most physically dominant player on attack to just power through poles and defenders. Duke on the other hand is strong in every facet of the game. With that said, go Bulldogs!!

We also have a pole from Georgia who red shirted last season. Coach is very high on him. May be able to plug in one of our holes. And if Taub is as good as you & others have said, he may be able to play right away.

On a side note, I've been watching Taub and WH the last couple of years and I'm very happy they won the state sectional title yesterday (this coming from a father of a Ridge player). They play great, move the ball lacrosse. Constant motion, much like Yale did yesterday. Move the ball, move the ball, move the ball and then bam - back of the net. On the defensive side, I just read that outside of 1 game earlier in the year against Hunterdon Central (the team they beat for the sectional championship) they had a 3.6 goals against average. That is incredible in the league we play in plus the out of league games we all play against top competition.

Never want to expect too much from a freshman but these kids are coming in ready more than ever.

The kid from Ga. is a long stick middie. Going to be tough for him to see a lot of time with what’s coming back. As it should be. The kid from Ca is one to keep an eye on top there. As are others. I think in the years to come our D is going to be a very strong point.

Well then long stick. He's listed on the roster as D. Many times a long stick will play both middie & close D. I know my son did. Whatever. Nonetheless, Coach had good things to say about him. I'd keep my eye on him.

Most guys don’t play both. And they don’t break out D middies on the roster. It’s pretty unusual to play close and long pole. Very different skill sets, especially with out style. Maybe in D3 it isn’t, I wouldn’t know. In D1 it is though. Our current roster has one, maybe two guys that could do that.

The kid from Ga is a longstick middie and that’s where he willl very likely stay. With Pless and Michaeli coming back, he’s probably a year away from getting serious time. Coach Brecht is high on him. As he is others.

My son played both in D1. I'd keep my eye on the kid from Georgia.

well from my experience it is sometimes hard for players to go from playing LSM to Playing Close as the approach angles are different and the concepts of how to play a different. from what I am hearing you may see Felix getting the bulk of his run at LSM with Michaeli moving down to close to get more experience down there. If you recall Michaeli started the year at close and they switched him back to LSM as he appeared to be more comfortable above the goal. Think that they have a stable of good defensemen that can fill the role of Rexrode and Bronzo, Nordhausen and Thompson will be juniors and they have those three freshman that they probably redshirted including the kid from Cali and the kid from GA. both are good and athletic but the GA. kid is a little on the slight side right now and needs to get stronger.
Do I think that Taub can step in a play, yes frankly and I think that Russo will also fight for time but, Taub is a stud athlete, (he played LB on the fFB team) who is big enough to play big guys and fast enough to play small fast guys.
Felix is a great athlete who will find his way on the field sooner rather than later, and do not be surprised if you see him with a short stick (I do not know anything just my own feelings about what we lost at d-mid)

Thanks for the insight. Regarding the angles, it's the same in baseball with 2nd & short. Different angles. Many shortstops weren't able to play second or not well. Some guys were able to play both well.

If that happens, it will be a 180 from where things stand today.
Perhaps. Don't want to violate a private a private conversation, but when I mentioned our graduating close D's the Georgia kid's name was brought up in a very favorable light, and it wasn't brought up by me. That's all I posted initially regarding the young man.

You must have misunderstood.

Really? I didn't misunderstand anything. Pretty G Damned presumptuous of you.

All I know is what I’ve seen with my own eyes at practice and what I’ve heard from those who do more than just think something.

If he is a close D next season, he switched positions, which while not unheard of, is unusual.

Bullett and Michaeli are the only guys we have that can do it or have so far.

Think something? Don't mischaracterize what I said. Lets meet at a game next year & sort this out.

Congrats to each of the 3 young men GREAT work and WELL deserved!

I still can’t get my head wrapped around the fact that this team, once again, left it up to the committee to decide their fate, so I’ll abstain from talking further...for now....ugh.

Villanova getting in was an NCAA gift based on their hoops team winning the championship.

Not arguing that brither; NEVER should’ve gotten to that point and I think you know it. Just a shame. 3 wasted years had the talent to be there all 3 times without leaving it A group of people who will never give us the benefit of the doubt.
