Came across this press release for the annual Rutgers Night with the Somerset Patriots. I've been before....once when Schiano was there and also Flood. It was a fun night for my family and I.

Looks like Coach Ash will be there.

Here is the info:

RUTGERS FOOTBALL HEAD COACH CHRIS ASH WILL HEADLINE SOMERSET PATRIOTS RUTGERS NIGHT ON FRIDAY, JULY 1ST

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots will welcome Rutgers Football’s new Head Coach Chris Ash to the team’s Rutgers Night at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday, July 1st for the team’s 7:05 pm game against the Bridgeport Bluefish.

Rutgers Night is an annual tradition at TD Bank Ballpark designed to highlight Rutgers University and get fans excited for the upcoming football season. 2016 is an extra special year as Rutgers University is celebrating its 250th Anniversary. All fans that use the Promo Code RU250 will receive a $2.50 discount on tickets purchased on-line.

Ash will be on hand to address the crowd pre-game, throw out a ceremonial first pitch and meet fans at the ballpark for the first few innings of the game.

Ash was announced as the 30th Head Coach of Rutgers Football on December 7, 2015. He brings nearly two decades of collegiate coaching service, including five years in the Big Ten Conference (four as a defensive coordinator) and has helped lead his teams to four B1G Championships.

The 42-year old Ash served as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach at The Ohio State University during their 2014 national championship season.

"I have been fortunate to learn the game of football from so many great coaches and mentors who have prepared me for this incredible opportunity," Ash said at his introductory press conference in December. "There are so many wonderful things about Rutgers University and our state that we will build a program which can compete in a very difficult Big Ten Conference."

Rutgers Night will also welcome the Scarlet Knight, Rutgers cheerleaders, dance team members and other special guests to still be announced closer to the event.

Fans are encouraged to wear red to the game to show their support for Rutgers University.

The 2016 Somerset Patriots Season Presented By Ford is underway. For more information or to purchase tickets for the 2016 season, stop by TD Bank Ballpark, call (908) 252-0700 or visit www.somersetpatriots.com.

I wonder if Hobbs will sign a contract to play a game there too.

Had a great time. Ash threw out the first pitch. He was around for 2 innings signing autographs & posing for pictures then went to sit with his family in one of the boxes. The Knight was there, a few cheerleaders & about a half dozen players . they all mingled with the crowds & posed for pictures. Blazek & family were there too. He came down to say hello.

More importantly, was Mr.Screw in attendance too ?

Was at the game and got there early to grab a photo with Ash. Got him coming off the field before getting to the inside area. Then took my son up to meet him inside by the Rutgers table. I was hyped to meet him than my son. And yes, he was gone after two innings from the table.

Few observations:
Why didn't more Rutgers fans come out to support this night? I had a coupon for buy one get one and paid $11.50 for my son and me.

I see the big R in the outfield, why isn't there a Rutgers table at every game? I am a firm believer that we should cover the entire state with the Block R. Magnets, posters, and other flyers/brochures were on the table.

It would have been great to have others from the coaching staff there as well.

The football players that showed up were very polite, and took many photos with the fans. (I'd post one, but I'm forum challenged in adding one).

@Scoutnmayo I think the low attendance may have been because it was Friday night of a holiday weekend. Another factor may have been the weather. MrScrew and I drove 45 minutes to get there from Mercer county, where it was pouring rain as we left and raining for a good part of the way up there. The only reason we went was because the Patriots twitter account assured me that it was nice in Somerset.

I was kind of surprised to see that RU didn't put a magnet on every car that was in the parking lot. They had plenty of them. A Rutgers table at every game or even a good portion of them is a great idea.

I went the next day and the place was packed (fireworks). At least 3 of us in my section were wearing Rutgers gear.
