Rutgers offers 2019 6’10 forward David Skogman

His release point on his jump shot looks a little bit low but he looks strong finishing around the basket.

That's a long way to go to see a kid play on a week night in October... maybe they think they found a hidden gem.

I’m dying for the kid with offers who says Rutgers is where I want to be.

Like Doucoure (Ga Tech, UConn, Oregon, etc) or Mathis (NC State, Texas A+M, USCw, UConn, etc) or Carter (Purdue, Auburn, Wichita State, Texas Tech) or Mulcahy (Marquette, Va Tech, Xavier, Northwestern)? Plus we beat out Auburn, SHU and URI for Kiss. Even guys like McConnell had West Virginia and Wichita State offers and Harper had folks poking around late last year to see how "committed" he was to Rutgers.

This staff has beaten out plenty of schools who should be regarded as "better than Rutgers" to start filling this roster with talent. To not acknowledge as much is wrong.

Coach P was hired on 3/19/2016 and in two and a half recruiting classes this staff has landed: Eugene, Baker, Doucoure, Kiss, Mathis, McConnell, Carter, Harper, Johnson, Mulcahy and Young. Plus added Gettys and got Thiam to keep his commitment.

We'll see over the next few years whether these guys live up to their billing (4 top 150s, two high level transfers, guys who look like Big 10 players: Baker/Eugene), but in my opinion '18-'19 is the biggest infusion of talent On the Banks since Mike Rice's big class (Eli, Myles, Kadeem, etc)

We must have a rotation where at all times we can field a team with 4 perimeter players. The days with a back to the basket 4 are long gone. Unfortunately our past and current roster looks that way.

Agree completely. There are some exceptions like Haas at Purdue last year, but for the most part, the true Center position has been minimized, at best. That's why I can't understand it when some people project Doorson as a starter this year. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think he will be utilized as a role player in certain match-ups with his strength being the ability to give some players a rest, and provide some leadership. I think Doucoure, Carter, and Johnson will all get minutes over him.

I think you need a Doorson or Carter or Duocoure on the floor, but just 1. Need a defensive rebounder and a rim protector, but on the offensive end 4 guys need to be tough to guard.

Over the past few years we have been so easy to defend. No diversity to where the shots came from and who they came from. You could draw a small circle on a big court and say as long as we have a presence there Rutgers will not score much.

Well, Eugene has allegedly added a perim6shot, but he was already oddly hard to guard at times last year just on craftiness. Thiam, Harper can also play face-up 4.

I do think you'll mainly get Eugene and Carter at the 4, with Myles, Doucoure and Dorrson at the 5.

Doucoure needs a ton of work but has the potential for a 15 to 20 footer

I wonder where Marquette and Wisconsin are on this kid?

Marquette and Wisconsin are national programs that do not place any signifcant emphasis on in state recruiting. They look for the players that fit their systems/culture the best.

Late bloomers are everywhere...just because a kid isnt considered a stud at age 15 or 16, doesn't mean he wont be one at 18 or 19.

He's finally healthy. What if he has a N'Daiye type senior season?

I get it. I was just referring to my impatience right now.

Eugene's points came from the same spot on the court where you need to be to stop Sanders. If we want to win Eugene has to be a threat from the perimeter. So important.

I wonder where Marquette and Wisconsin are on this kid?
I know that a couple of Wisconsin coaches watched several of his games at the NY2LA Summer Jam.

The word is they like him but that they feel they can come in late on him if they decide to pursue. I don't know where Marquette is on this kid or if they've done any work on him at all

Red flag that Wisconsin isn’t on this kid yet.

Red flag that Wisconsin waited or didnt offer Strickland until last winter...others like Wichita State, USF and others offered well in advance of Wisconsin.....or does that only matter because he's from Wisconsin???

Bingo. Wisconsin has the brand to come in late, especially with a guy who lives so close to campus. I'd wager good money that Wisconsin is his dream school and would go if offered. If Wisconsin thinks that then they know they don't need to offer him now.

Because if he’s any good they’ll offer and he will go there over RUTGERS like Strickland.

Edit: just saw Russ said the same exact thing.

Only problem is that Wisconsin hasn't offered yet and no one knows if they will.....so regardless of whether it's his dream school, your initial point is wrong (again)....your point was it was a red flag that Wisconsin didn't offer, which is a dig at the player not being good enough.

Whether Wisconsin offers later (for you) , then suddenly makes the kid good enough......which is it??....

You actually have nothing more to add than determining whether someone is good based on who offers or who doesn't....which is wrong (again).

Would love to see it, of course but to me N’Daiye was way more mobile and athletic. Perhaps some of it has been because Doorson wasn’t healthy..we’ll see.

We didn't say the same exact thing but okay

Another reason that Wisconsin has not offered, and I overlooked this earlier, is that they really don't need a center this cycle. The kid has a nice skill set for a big. If he is willing to redshirt, Wisconsin might come in with an offer soon and scoop him up. If he is not willing to redshirt Wisconsin may not get into mix with him.

My initial comment about Marquette and especially Wisconsin was based on my perception that Wisconsin does well with local bigs. At least I thought that was case with Bo Ryan. While. they did not land Diamond Stone last year, overall I thought their track record was pretty good. I thought Marquette took a more diverse approach to recruiting.

There was a lot of chatter, mostly from Wisconsin people, that Stone would have gone to Wisconsin but his ACT score wasn't high enough for the school to admit him. That may be true and it may be a bunch of butt hurt fans. Who knows.

Also, and I might be wrong here, I think that Wisconsin's track record with Milwaukee area kids isn't as successful as it is with kids from the rest of the state.

You thought about their success in the Milwaukee area could very well be accurate.

There are ongoing and heated debates on various Wisconsin boards about whether Wisconsin under Bo Ryan and now Gard are even attempting the tougher recruiting terrain in Milwaukee and Chicago. They have been to the NCAA 15 out of the last 16 years not recruiting those areas heavily, so perhaps their success speaks for itself.

On the other hand a vast number of Wisconsin fans believe in NCAA level competition, you'll lose to Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana or Ohio State elite talents in crunch time and their non athletic team isn't going to win big.

No point in worrying about recruiting and the decisions these teenagers will have to make. We have a good coaching staff that is not getting outworked in any facet of the job. The signs of progress are there. Enjoy the ride and congratulate and root for the kids that will wind up picking Rutgers

They've made how many Final 4's in the last 10 years ?

The Kaminsky group took out Kentucky no ?

Heavy hitters like Arizona, Vanderbilt, and Michigan have gotten involved lately on his recruiting.

Probably missed our shot at him, if we ever had a shot.

short memories, on their way to back to back FF's they beat Arizona, Kentucky, UNC, and came within a bad call of beating duke on monday night

That would be a great switch. A player from Wisconsin coming to NJ to play! ( if only football could start doing that as well) ..Sounds like a player RU usually has trouble with. Would be cool having him on our side..
