Wilbon said Hurley made a good decision not to touch that given "other problems" which I assume means infrastructure.

Infrastructure wasn't the issue with Hurley, however, as he was (apparently) even given a timeline for the practice facility.

Hurley knows the program better than any other candidate. If RU could have paid more $$, I'm sure he would have been the coach. Not sure he wanted to get himself into this situation when he had everything he wanted already at URI...

MORE $$$$?? He used us, plain and simple, and apparently shot down $2M/year at 6-years which he isn't even worth at this time.

I just love it when these national guys who have no effing clue weigh in on our school

I do get it...to the outsider, we are a dumpster fire...but it's still annoying...I would have been happy with Hurley, but to suggest that he's above Rutgers is just too dramatic for my taste. But I understand how that plays out with the public.

in other words. no confidence he could get the job done at Rutgers in the B1G time and wanted a sure..scratch that..BETTER bet in the A-10 of success.

He didn't want to be here. Everyone has a price but I don't want a coach who doesn't want to be here. This is a difficult job and it won't work. That's the only think Eddie had going for him a he wasted to be here. Too bad he didn't have the energy, coaching and recruiting skills.

No. Wilbon doesn't know or care about RU's infrastructure.

As usual, he hasn't spent 5 seconds actually finding out what has/is going on.

He's just trying to sound insightful. He's just referring back to Rice/Herman/etc.

Tabloid television...pure and simple...those two old creeps (the bearded guy is Biden-level creepy) have no clue about Rutgers...id be surprised if they knew where the school is located (city or state)

Oh please you fall for that crap, Magoo? Eddie wanted to be here because it paid well. He can sit on his Duff for the next 3 years without a worry in the world lhao at guys like you. The guy hustled RU plain and simple

If you have watched PTI you would know that hatchet consider Eddie Jordan a friend. From his Wizards days.

i don't think he intentionally hustled us. I actually think he thought he could do the job when he took it. It may have become a hustle when he didn't step away after it was obvious he was in over his head - I thought after the first year. But who actually would walk away?

I think if he got just one decent recruit this fall, we wouldn't even be having this conversation and people would still believe he could turn it around. Problem is he would never know what to do with the talent if he got it.

I don't think anyone would purposely go into this knowing He would be as big of a failure as he was. He embarrassed himself.

Hurley wasn't sure he could turn RU MBB around even after being assured he'd get the support he needed to succeed and be paid fairly well.
Nothing wrong with Danny not accepting the challenge, failing to turn RU around would ruin his career and that is something he's wise enough not to take a chance on.

It's hard for me to defend Eddie since I think he was the worst college coach I've ever seen....but i do think he is a stand-up guy.

All this over a guy who has never sniffed the post season.

Give me a break.

+1

He's no sure bet to be successful in the B1G even if he got the Michigan State job.

Not fretting over this for even one second.

Who's next?

wait I thought you said we werent offering

I never said any such thing. There was another poster, however, who claimed that Danny must have never received an offer because he "withdrew" his name he didn't turn us down.

His comments piggy back the same thing he said about RU when EJ was fired last week.

I don't mind him not taking the job. I just wish he would have come to that conclusion two weeks ago, without making us look like idiots. Apparently that is of no concern to him.
