Rutgers Players Pre-season Updates …JaQuea Jackson 38yd TD

Some teams have Rutgers genes.
Certainly Baltimore is one - RU already had a player (J'Vonne Parker) on Ravens when Rice got there.

Looks like Clark Harris didn't get picked up by anyone. Thus far he's had a long and successful NFL career.
College teams have several LSs on rosters - Rutgers has at least 3 - but NFL teams have just one. Don't be surprised if Clark signs late in season to fill in for an injured or suspended LS.

Witness Brian Kinchen. Brian, like Clark, converted from tight end to LS and had a long NFL career. He played for the Browns when Bill Belichick was head coach there. When the Patriots were on a 10 game winning streak in 2003 and suddenly needed a LS, Brian received a request from Foxboro to appear for a tryout.

Brian was reluctant to attend. He learned at the end of his NFL career teams defaulted to younger LSs. At the time, Brian was a seventh grade teacher. His students persuaded him to attend the tryout. Brian got the job and won Super Bowl XXXVIII, making a last second snap for the game winning field goal.

Kinchen says that to this day he cant watch the NE SB snap on FG.
He was in the SB but praying to go home
Long snapper is a psychological test and is the most yips prone position in football.
Once a long snapper misses a few snaps they are often "done."

Missing a few FGs, passes etc is built into the position - misses are expected.
LSs don't get that - send a few snaps over a punters head and that will usually end a career.
It used to be worse when the LS actually had to block while being targeted for head jams and such
The LS's mind gets screwed and the over-thinking, trepidation, false premonitions can really escalate.
Kinchen describes all that pretty well,
Snaps for FG and extra points are much easier than for punts (I was a LS in HS)

Thanks for giving readers the benefits of your LS experience. One thing that struck me about the Super Bowl snap is after Brian returned to the team hotel, he turned on the TV to watch the game highlights. Commentators hyperventilated about the perfect hold and kick. They didn't mention the snap.

New England is another one. Of the 23 Super Bowl rings won by former Rutgers players, 11 of the rings were earned wearing a Patriots uniform.
