Obviously taken with a grain of salt and still very much a moving target, however, 247 moved us up to 10th best 2018 B1G class with the McConnell commitment....ahead of Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn State, and Nebraska. Nice to be ahead of Wisky with Strickland, FWIW. We were dead last not too long ago.

Another decent pickup and we could be soundly in the middle of the pack.

Magoo,

Thanks for the update. Definitely a class that is not full of four or five stars, but in my opinion, a lot of sleepers. Harper Jr is going to be a good piece for Rutgers. With this young depth that may lack total skill development as freshman, let them use their youth to play a faster paced style of game. It will be fun to watch!

Now let' just have that be the programs standing next year and we will be happy fans!

Good day.

If they gave Harper a rating we would probably be a few spots higher than that.

Good post. But just remember, we may not have a lot of 4 star players, but they can easily develop into top players. Just look at DiVincenzo at 'Nova and Happ at Wisconsin. Both were 3 star players coming in to their respective programs.

Have to be careful because the number of total verbals impacts the ratings....we have maybe up to 5 new additions....

Mathis, Harper Jr. Carter, McConnell and TBD (Hyatt....???)

If you factor in Doucoure in this class, 2018 ranking would be significantly higher but 2017's class would be lower ranked........

Taking a grad or sit out transfer also doesn't get mixed into the numbers.....

Absolutely. Freshman will have their time to develop, and we have the right staff to get them there.

Look forward to it. I figured RU had a good shot with McConell after seeing them on campus Saturday. I really like hi game, and think he will add another facet to the team that will be used to help win games- passing and the size to rebound and start his own fast break without an outlet pass.

Just keep developing!

It is a joke. I just checked they list 487 guys and Harper is not even listed. I don't know how they factor in Shaq Carter as well as he is a JUCO. Here are the numbers I found for us and Seton Hall. Mathis 111, McConnell 171 and nothing for Harper or Carter but I guess they are given 3 stars. Seton Hall has Manuel 182, Nelson 212, Rhoden 218 and nothing for Brodie. They list SHU as # 40 overall and RU at # 63 yet we have 2 guys rated ahead of their highest. I think we would definitely move up if Harper or Carter received some points. I don't understand how Harper is first team ALL STATE by NJ Hoops and second team ALL STATE by the Star Ledger and he is not even listed.

I must check where we are rated by rivals. Thanks, I see Rivals now lists Harper at # 132.

I just checked Rivals team rankings and we are at # 39 and Seton Hall is at # 55. They have Mathis as a 4 star and Carter, Harper & McConnell as all 3 stars. Obviously we will move up as this is not updated with Harper for 4 stars. Seton Hall they have Nelson, Rhoden & Manuel as all 3 stars and Brodie as a 2 star. Being at # 39 seems decent but again I think we will move up soon when Harper's 4th star is included.

We are 8th out of 14 BIG teams on the Rivals site.

8. Michigan
10. Maryland
11. Mich St.
12. Illinois
20. Indiana
25. Northwestern
28. Ohio State
39. Rutgers
41. Minnesota
45. Purdue
47. Iowa
63. Wisconsin
76. Penn State
81. Nebraska

Once again this is without Harper's updated position with 4 stars.

Here are the Big East team rankings as of this time on Rivals.

13. Villanova
21. Providence
32. Georgetown
37. Creighton
48. St. John's
55. Seton Hall
63. Xavier
81. Depaul (tied with 19 other teams).
Butler
Marquette These last two are not even listed in the Top 100 teams for recruiting.

Comparing the 2 leagues recruiting for this year (2018) the BIG is doing much better with 4 teams ahead of Villanova which is close to our top four. The BIG has 6 in the top 25 whereas the Big East only has 2. The BIG has 11 in the top 50 and the Big East only has 5. I know a lot can change but I think overall the BIG is improving its status.

Tenth best huh? Rivals has the 2018 Rutgers class ranked No. 8 in the B1G. Wisconsin has zero four-star signees so they should be behind Rutgers. That has nothing to do with Strickland.

Villanova and Wisconsin are proven developers of talent. It remains to be seen if this staff is at that level.

The current coach at Wisconsin hasn't shown anything just yet. He's living off the success of the previous coach.
Coach Pike might not be at the same level at Nova, but anyone watching him the last two years can easily see Rutgers players are developing nicely. Sanders is much better than he was under Eddie. Eugene made a huge jump between his freshman and sophomore season. Thiam saw marked improvement from his 1st season to this season. Also, Pike has a track record of developing players. Look at what he did at Stony Brook.

Well we shall see. And you may be right with Wright, but you can't say that yet with Wisconsin. Happ was developed under the former coach.

As an assistant at Wisconsin for 14 years it stands to reason that Coach Gard helped develop several guys at Wisconsin.
