Millions are being poured into facility upgrades for the football program. Didn't we just get a new weight room? Didn't I just see renderings for the new practice fields? And, I'm sure there have been plenty of other improvements as well. Why? Seems to me that instead of capital improvements, RU should be investing in proven human capital.

Though not necessarily apples to apples, RU basketball, with arguably the best coaching staff ever at RU, now stands at 9 - 1. Not too shabby. Unfortunately, I think a critical opportunity was lost by Ash and Hobbs last year, with the assistant coaching budget and hires. As someone said in another post, the OC position now requires additional hazard pay.

Sounds like someone who wants to tell others how to spend their pounds. Maybe we are pennywise because that's what we have to spend. Of course, you could just join the chorus of people who tell fellow Rutgers fans they do not donate enough.

I for one am still not convinced that Barchi gets it despite those who throw rose petals at his feet...there is a reason why we have the lowest paid assistant staff in the Big 10. Barchi tooted his horn that money wasnt an issue and that was false so lets see what happens with this hire and if Pat is allowed to spend

Can we wait until someone is hired before complaining?

As the title suggests, this observation goes back quite some ways...well beyond the OC hire. I'll also add that it's not always how much is spent, but rather, how it's spent.

We also make significant less revenue then every big team by a lot. We don't get full share yet. We also have low attendance vs other Big schools.
I was a big barchi critic in the past but he has done well over last 12 months. Let's give him a break.

Would you have made this post if DM was still here?

How do you think we attracted coach Pike? A really big $100M capital improvement plan....

Exactly. To draw top "human capital" you need to show a serious investment in the program.

And while I'm thrilled about the the basketball teams start, kenpom.com ranks our SOS at #349, third to last. Only ECU and San Francisco are behind us. Let's keep things in perspective. The team's making progress but we're not there yet, it's a cake schedule.

Wasn't the OOC SoS just as bad last year? All things equal, I'd rather win vs crappy teams than lose vs just as crappy teams.

DM was one of the highest paid OC in school history.

So... WTF is this thread about?

This would had made more sense when Flood was here.

Infrastructure upgrades are desperately needed...

To me it is still upsetting to hear that the whole team still can't fit into the locker room! Who knows when that will finally get the upgrade.

Basketball also did get locker room upgrades that you probably just never heard about.

Come on now... Pikell was the head coach at Stony Brook College.
If the RU job was not an upgrade over Stony, we may as well just give up on this athletics race and be done with it!!!

I guess last time you saw MBB play was in 1976 right?

ActualIy, I had never even heard of RU until the mid 80's, when my hs junior/senior class took a trip to RU NB campus. And yes, my hs was in North Jersey. (And no, I didn't attend Ru).

I understand your point, but Pikell still chose RU.

I don't think you get it but no harm no foul.

Any guy you are prepared to pay the big bucks to coach, will not accept any job, without a commitment to program infrastructure. So you can't invest in top human capital because anyone worth their salt would require competitive capital investing first (as the OP put it).

I think that the football facilities are good enough to attract quality coaches. However, imo, the historical lack of institutional support has been the greatest barrier to success. The point that I was attempting to make, is that instead of earmarking funds for additional capital improvements, that money should instead have been earmarked/sold for a more experienced staff. It's been debated ad nauseam on here, and while I do believe that the football staff worked their tails off and tried their best, they bear some of the responsibility for this year's record/scores. How can they not? We just don't have the luxury of digging a deeper hole. Staff budget should have been higher from the start. I suspect that a more seasoned staff would have us better positioned currently.

Rutgers fans don't donate enough. Rutgers alumni don't donate enough. It's pathetic and embarrassing and one of the key reasons we are in the state we're in.

5 minutes after you kick in $1 million you can tell Rutgers how to spend it.

Just curious, are you an RU alum?
I find the topic interesting, facilities and infrastructure vs investing in humans.

I do think if an obvious homerun candidate for OC became available our top donors would supplement his salary...think Fridge.
