Jeremy Zuttah has just finished his 9th season as guard/center with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2008-13) and the Baltimore Ravens (2014-16) for a total of 130 NFL games played.

Can you name the five former star players that have played more NFL games than anyone else in Rutgers history?

186 games - ?
179 games - ?
174 games - ?
151 games - ?
148 games - ?

141 games - ?

Harry Swayne, Jay Bellamy, Bill Pickel and Deron Cherry were all easy. I wrote about all of them. But you got me with Bill Pellington. Way before my time and had to look that one up. That's a good trivia question there.

Had Bellomy, Cherry, Pickel, thought Clark Harris was going to sneak in there as snapper

Rutgers’ longest NFL career is 15 seasons held by (1983-86) Harry Swayne who played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Diego Chargers, Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins for a total of 186 games – a Rutgers record. He also started 13 of 18 playoff games he was in. He played defensive end and offensive tackle and is the only Rutgers player whose career spanned three decades (1987-2001).

Jay Bellamy (1990-93) completed his 14th season in 2007 having played for the Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints and played in 179 games. Bill Pickel (1979-82) played 12 seasons and 174 games between the Raiders and Jets. Shaun O’Hara (2000-10) played 11 seasons and 151 games between the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants. Deron Cherry played 11 seasons and 148 games with the Kansas City Chiefs. Bill Pellington (1949-52) spent a dozen years with the Colts and played 141 games.

Clark Harris finished off his 9th season and has played 120 NFL games.

Nate Jones was in 106 games, LJ Smith was in 99.

The Mac twins will likely end up on the top of the pile...definitely D-Mac since a career at S can be a bit longer than CB...and he has several additional playoff games every year

I had Swayne, Bellamey, Cherry, O'Hara, Pickel. Wonder how many O'Hara had?

According to Pro-Reference.com (not including play off games):

Gary Brackett played in 116 games.

O'Hara played in 151 games.

Jason McCourty is up to 110 games through 2016, I think.

Devin McCourty is up to 107 games through 2016.

Sanu has played in 72 games.

Kenny Britt has played in 104 games.

Zuttah has played in 131 games.

Logan Ryan is up to 64 games.

Ray Rice played in 92 games.

Brian Leonard played in 88 games.

So the list ought to be:

1) Swayne at 186 games

2) Bellamy at 179 games

3) Pickel at 174 games

4) O'Hara at 151 games

5) Cherry at 148 games

6) Pellington at 141 games

7) Zuttah at 131 games

8) Brackett at 116 games

Zuttah is still playing - and starting.

The McCourty's and Britt are each over 100 games, and still playing. Barring injuries, you would think each of those 3 are good for at least 2 more seasons ... getting each over 135 games (Jason over 140).

You know what jellyman... I completely fumbled the ball on Shaun O'Hara so I went back and corrected the list.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Also, I just missed one: James Jenkins, who played in 133 games in the NFL.

A few questions for our Stat experts:

How many super bowl rings do we have, and where does that rank us within FBS schools?
If the patriots win this year and we get 3 more, where would that rank us?

There's already a thread on Rutgers players with a Super Bowl ring. As far as ranking goes, don't know if there is a list of Super Bowl rings produced by college. There was an answer to such a question on a sports website and the reply stated the University of Miami have Super Bowl player appearances totaling 53 rings.

However, if you are interested, here's an article on the Colleges That Produced The Most Super Bowl Players:

For those who do not want to count the list, RU ranks 65th on the list, with 28 Super Bowl players.
