Rutgers Volleyball Dominates Siena 3-0 in First Home Match

Don't think Hobbs would fire both Donigan and the VB coach in the same season. I wouldn't mind firing Donigan after this year and then focus on VB next year.

Hobbs needs to hire a three time former all American who is currently making her bones at another big 10 school as an assistant coach. That's the only way this program is going to get moving. There certainly isn't going to be money to steal someone away from another big 10 program who is currently a head coach.

IU fan here....with some questions for you guys about RU volleyball. Being an IU volleyball fan, I'm not on high horse as we have remained mediocre. Just interested in your situation.

Obviously I'm not seeing a lot of movement for RU volleyball right now. Do you guys think it's primarily a coaching issue or a facilities issue? I ask because your coach had a very good record for his time at Fairfield, but he can't seem to get any traction at RU. Just listening to him, he sounds like an articulate guy....has he given up? Or....do you guys see it as primarily an issue of lack of interest? As a whole, RU fans seem to be more into football, wrestling, lax, and soccer. Is volleyball just not a sport that generates much interest there? (ie...basketball at PSU). Another example is wrestling---IU fans aren't much into it, but there's great interest in PA & NJ.

Very little interest because we were always in small time leagues. Facilities are poor right now. We were pretty shocked to find out how big volleyball is in the BIG. Now we are undergoing a huge push for facility upgrades. The first major upgrade in almost ten years just broke ground. We are still 4-5 yearsfrom getting the BIG ten money. Righ now getting a AAC payout At about 12 million puts us at a huge disadvantage compared to the BIG schools getting north of 45-50 million.

Thanks for the reply.......Do the wrestlers and the volleyball team share the present facility? Is a new building in the works, or not feasible at this time?

When RU was admitted, I knew you'd struggle in the non-revenue sports for the reasons you mention. It's unfortunate that the other Big Ten schools played hardball and didn't let you guys front-load the deal. They had all the cards and played them, but it's too bad the administrators and ADs didn't do more to ensure competitiveness. To me, it seems unfair to the RU athletes in those sports.

As an example of what I'm talking about, I also follow IU baseball. IU was never competitive until about 8-9 years ago when they hired a better coach and began to build a new facility. Since then, they've been competitive against everyone in the league.I know baseball is a sport where your present facility is a major issue.

Anyway, i give you guys props for not moaning too much and doing the best you can under the circumstances. As you get plans in the works and get closer to the $ you'll see more competitiveness in sports like volleyball & baseball.
