Rutgers YouTube Trickery Makes the NY Times

My first thought was "Now that the NY Times reported on this, the opposing team will be expecting it and it won't be effective." But on second thought, it might be more effective. Teams might be coming out wanting to see what video Rutgers has in store for them. Just the anticipation of a dumb video is a distraction even before the video plays.

Well done, Rutgers.

I love it! And I like that the press isn't killing us over it, and actually praises the manner in which it is being done.

Wether it works or not, teams will start to talk about this, and it will create some buzz. I agree that some good hearted gamesmanship is missing these days. (as long as it doesn't distract from the game itself).

Yup. We surely would have lost by at least 12 points to Hartford if it wasn't for that distracting pre-game video, which thankfully led to a much more respectable 2 point loss.

Digressing a bit, we should come up with a song for every player on the RU roster. I'll go first.

For EO...

[laughing] This song received a lot of airplay on local radio stations in the early 80s.

Aaaand right below is another drive by hit piece on the athletic dept deficit, with quotes from everyone's favorite Economics professor, Mark Killingsworth.

That's just related content, a previous story on Rutgers...it's from back in March, not an article delivered to readers for the first time simultaneously with the current one.

This article is written by none other than proud Rutgers alum, Kelly Whiteside. Always enjoy her articles. Didn't realize she moved from USA Today to the NY Times.
Think she teaches at Montclair State too?

And like you I like seeing her byline as well.

Mr. Trololo is now gonna be on my playlist.

Might I suggest this?

I'm sure once the NCAA sees that Rutgers is doing this they will act to ban it. (of course it is very cleaver and great move)....we need more of this type of thinking...

Yep.

It’s new age media version of the “Pink Locker room”

Soon enough somebody will complain about this and the kaleidoscope horse montage at the Football games.

Creating a little buzz around our program is a good thing...as long as we are a decent team. This would have been a pitiful attempt two years ago.

Absolutely love this, which, of course means, the NCAA will step in and ban it...unless, of course, an ACC school was doing it.. Watch, this will be short-lived, while blue-bloods like UNC, etc cotinue to have fake classes, cheat, etc.

We should play "Hail to the Victors" while Ohio State warms up. Our fanbase will hate it, but Ohio State will hate it more.
that would just piss them off and be kind of unsportsmanlike. need to distract them...(but boy, would that piss them off lol)

My wife and I were totally cracking up and it was funny watching the Wisc players looking up at the video board, you could see they were thinking "WTF?"

Good this year, but probably won’t be effective second time around when it becomes expected.

Now that it’s been in The NY Times, it has jumped the shark and can be discontinued. Have a good night.
