Sargeant: Rutgers practice report: Is the linebacker position solidified heading into game-week?

Interesting....According to a comment Seargent left in the comments section, it looks like Allen & Rescigno taking the 2nd team reps, Dare is taking the third team reps. Rettig not gaining any reps in 11 vs 11 team periods.

I would guess that Rettig may be transferring, given above.

I think we may be pleasantly surprised with the LB play as the season progresses. Once they get their feet wet, this group will steadily improve.

Looks like Gio is still battling with Allen for backup QB.

Cintron will be the punter.

David Bonagura is Rutgers' placekicker and will "most likely'' handle kickoffs as well.

Ash is very positive on Seymour at OL:
Ash offered a strong endorsement for Kamaal Seymour, a redshirt freshman who was moved to second-team right tackle from the defensive line earlier this week. "He is a big, strong, physical kid. He looks as good as anybody on this football team physically,'' Ash said. "You look at other defensive linemen, he is probably a little bit slower in terms of his change of direction than the other ones. You move him over to the offensive line and he's probably the most athletic offensive lineman right now. He's done a great job this week learning the offense. But I like the way he bends, I like the way he uses his hands, I like the way he comes off the ball. I think he has a really bright future as an offensive tackle here. I think he's got the potential to play at the next level.''

Man, I sure as hell HOPE they "steadily improve," or we've got bigger problems than we thought - eek - but what did Ash say, or has he said, that makes you or anyone else think we'll be "pleasantly surprised"? I want to be, don't get me wrong, but 1 position is still being battled over by 2 completely inexperienced guys. I'd be happy if we're "pleasantly surprised" by this unit come the middle of 2017. Question asked simply out of curiosity. Thanks!

Also, am I the only person EXTREMELY worried about our kicking game? All-around?

I don't get much of a warm fuzzy feeling after reading this. By now I would think that the positions are set and they are running specific plays against the practice team to get ready for the Washington game.

If Heeman is injured, does that mean that Denman starts by default instead of by performance?

I took it to mean that Heeman injury is not serious, and that they will be competing this week. My guess is that Denman starts against the Huskies.

I don't know. Sounds like, once again, we don't have a guy who can put the ball into and/or out of the end zone on KO's. Anyway....
Maybe we'll get lucky & the rules committee moves kickoffs up 5 more yards, or eliminates them entirely.
