Here's my take on Schiano and recruiting. We're 1-40 in NJ in the last four years with top ten recruits. Everyone needs to relax with the Schiano hire. It can't get much worse than 1-40. OSU is always going to be OSU. They will continue to land 4/5 star recruits. I rather he be there than at a school like Pitt, PSU, UVA, or UMD. OSU is 25-2 in that last two seasons. I don't think the Schiano hire takes OSU from a two loss team over two years to a no loss team over two years.

Agree wholeheartedly and, IMHO, I'm not exactly so sure his "welcome" is going to be all that when he comes into the state. We'll see. What's he going to do walk into some kid's house and say "we're talking about recruiting the State of Ohio...."???

Absolutely true!! There are team like Ohio St., Michigan, Notre Dame, Alabama......are going to come in and take anyone they want from NJ or for that matter, across the country. They have tradition, brand recognition, coaches that have won, history of sending players to the NFL consistently, usually playing in a big Bowl Game, Facilities, Booster Support. Today, we are probably in the 2nd tier, fighting for the 3* recruits and maybe get lucky with a 4* but our team is going to be built today with mostly 3* recruits. The challenge and the question is how do we get where the top 10, top 20 stay home? It starts with having a strong defense and with Ash I hope our defense competes on a weekly basis. You need that 1 breakout player and hoping Russo is that player that elevates the entire offense and we start scoring on a consistent basis. We don't have to go 12-0,11-1 or even 10-2, a 9-3 would be a fantastic year for RU, even if those 3 losses were to Mich, Ohio St. & Mich St.

Take a step back from the ledge. It's going to take at least 4 - 5 years before unless Ash can duplicate what Herman was able to do but I think Ash has a bigger challenge here. Our coaches 1st challenge is on what type of staff he can put together. Does anyone know how much Schiano is going to be paid by Ohio St.? Even if it's $1M/yr., well that shows the difference between the have's and have nots.

Let's be realistic here and stop all the whining, from all indications we made a tremendous hire and I look forward to the future here!

We need to concentrate on what Rutgers can do. The whole idea of "building a wall around NJ" is negative, it's trying to prevent other schools from doing something. We can't control what Ohio State does. And what they do they do very well. We need to control what we do. And we certainly have room to improve.

Ash is a great hire imo. One good aspect is he brings some cache/ stain from OSU instead of (say) Iona. Now in reverse OSU has taken in RUs most renowned coach of modern era. Since currrent CFB recruiting relies on getting to kids younger and bringing them along through HS that would give a GS more influence. Not just in NJ either since many of RUs best players have come from NY (Leonard, Rice, Greene, McCourtys, Gerault etc). I see people say "well RU never got top recruits anyway so it doesn't matter" but I thought not allowing so many top NJ recruits to go to PSU, Bama, OSU, Michigan etc was part of getting better. Now if Ash is going to pull more players from Midwest that would be more of an equalizer - especially since those schools do much better OL recruiting.
