This program should have been given the death penalty. That's why I don't care if Rutgers cheats to some extent to get to the elite level. Obviously I mean "normal" cheating like paying off recruits, bringing in very marginal students, buying a condo for a family member etc . Child rape should have shut penn state down and here they are today on arguably the biggest national stage as probably more people watch this bowl game than any other.

Have to give credit to the current psu players and coaches for a heck of a season . Let's go USC!

Nobody currently at Penn State had anything to do with child rape. And child rape is not the reason why they are good. If Schiano hadn't left, we'd probably be on Penn State's level. Our first year in the B1G we were on the same level as Penn State, better than Notre Dame and better than Michigan.

Didn't say they were good because of child rape or that any one there currently did . Some people just don't want to read a post but want to comment on it .

Rutgers will never cheat to the extent necessary to compete with the likes of a Penn State or USC.

Schiano never would have gotten us to the level of Penn State. Look at his actual record, not the folklore.

But that's the point of penalties...

I think a worse penalty was in order because it was avoiding the stain of an active coach being found to rape children in the teams lockerroom and showers would have destroyed the mystique of the football program.. the DC of Linebacker U rapes young boys.... and JoePA did everything in his power to avoid that.

That is why they deserved more of a penalty. JoePA strung out the crime.. avoided the issue so long so that Penn State can now say that no one here was involved in that.. and they tore down those showers and rebuilt everything.. gee.. why did they do that?

Death Penalty was certainly worth considering.

Stop with the sour grapes BS. PSU has a good team. I don't think they are the fifth best team in college but they deserve to be a top 10 team.

SMU got the death penalty and the people that paid the price weren't the ones that committed the infractions. It's a lame argument to say that the current players and staff had nothing to do with child rape. The institution is punished, if players and coaches still choose to go there then they go with the knowledge that the program and the University are being punished. It's their choice to go to a school that is being punished.

What's just as bad is many of the penalties that were imposed were lifted. Imagine if that child rape situation happened at Rutgers, we would've recieved maximum punishment.

Well, if not for the flu hitting our team as it headed out to Cincinnati, we had a VERY good shot at playing in The Rose Bowl in 2006. The discussions were already underway to get it done. Probably ended up in Miami but it was "on the table." This is a fact.

Discussions is just talk. So they talked about us going to the rose bowl and then we finished in 3rd place in the 8-team big east. Just outstanding to have "discussions"

Exactly, I remember that time, it was all talk promoted by a few nut jobs on this board. Just more of the phony hype that is so prevalent on this board anytime we put more than two wins back-to-back.

Wow you're a couple of losers.

PSU is where they are because of their fan base. Look how many traveled to Pasadena. We are not even close though we were getting better 2006-2008. We have a long way to go as a program and a longer way to gongs a fan base. That being said I believe we will travel pretty well when we get to that point.

We'll be in the Rose Bowl on September 5, 2020. See you there. $$$$

Having the most powerful man in the state get told of something that heinous, and not only is nothing done but he actively advises administrators (his "superiors," my fat white ass) NOT to go to child protection authorities, is practically the dictionary illustration for "lack of institutional control," and it was by choice. There was no reason to lighten the penalties, and I don't care about the "people there now didn't do anything," because that's ALWAYS the case and if you thought about that, no institution anywhere would be punished for anything ever.

But no reason for the death penalty, which is specifically designed for a program that already has been slapped and then goes out and commits more violations. As heinous as this was, it doesn't meet the criteria. Sure, the NCAA could have done it anyway, but that would have been wrong. Not as wrong as easing the sanctions, but water under the bridge at this point.

The Happy Valley behemoth is back, and we have to compete with it.

Some of our fans are just pathetic. @Plum Street is one such fan.

Jealousy and envy get you no where. It's an ugly look.

State Penn has nothing to be envious about. Forever and ever their name will be synonymous with covering up child molesting in the name of football, whether the Cult fans believe it or not. They weren't punished for their crimes but at least they will be hated for it.

They are!

Sounds like you have a culture problem and you want to put football first.

All good points and I understand Plum Streets position. But cheating alone will not work. Rutgers needs to win and wait before considering cheating; let me explain. Let's finish two or three seasons with a 9-3 record and maybe upset a Michigan, OSU or PSU. Then and only then you go to an AD and say "I need these three or four kids to get us to a Rose Bowl or playoffs". The problem here at Rutgers is that as soon as we finish a season with an 8-4 record the Administration and AD jump up and down and say "good enough, nice job Chris". At other powerhouse programs like a Penn State, Michigan or OSU an 8-4 season is a bit of a rebuilding year.

The professors here at RU are far too powerful and like it or not they have a seat at the table.

Based on what? The NCAA backing off tells you all you need to know about the BS pulled on Penn State.
