Quick synopsis, Gross being given a chance to earn his way onto the wrestling team. Hope he uses it well. It seems like wrestling would be a good fit; demands time, commitment and work ethic. I think Coach Goodale is definitely a "you get what you've earned" guy, so I'm sure he's aware of any character issues. Of course, this is only my opinion, with a $1.50 and my opinion, you could get a cup of coffee.

I don't remember too much about what got him into trouble, but if the article is legit, he was in the wrong place at the right time. I think we've all done that once or twice.

He was with the group in which a couple of members got into a fight after last year's spring game. Under some NJ statute, if there's more than ## number of people involved, everyone can be charged with a couple specific offenses. He was definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"I will say this: He is super athletic and he's super strong and it seems like there is a passion,'' Goodale said of the 250-pound Gross. "But everybody has passion in the spring and the summer. I need to see the passion in November when it's on the line. I think he misses it. I think this is what he should've been doing it all along. He should've been with us from the get-go.''

What does "He should've been with us from the get-go,'' mean?

I took it to mean wrestling vs. football. From the article his wrestling resume was pretty damned good.

It means he shouldn't have been hanging out with Tejay Johnson for the last 2 years or whatever.

^^^ This. ^^^

I believe he was a 2 time NJ HS wrestling champion in his weight class.

with all the info coming out about him being in the wrong place at wrong time, wouldn't he also be given a chance to join the FB team?

He was a walk-on playing fullback: given the history and the fact that the new scheme probably won't man that position, he's probably been encouraged to move on.

What about the other bystanders who were in the wrong place at the wrong time, namely Barnwell and Peele? Didn't Peele have an assault charge that was dropped and Barnwell had a DUI?

I think they were both on 2nd (or 3rd?) chances, so I would not expect to see them back at all.

I belive he was a better fit for wrestling than football from the get go. The beginning
The start. ☺

Didn't Peele assault someone after this incident?

People deserve second chances, and maybe third chances in some cases, but Rutgers football doesn't have to give anyone a second chance.

Ruhann Peele being in the wrong place at the wrong time? - Peele acting like himself seems to fit that definition. Sorry, but Ruhann f'd up upteen times, unless his changes his ways he'll be playing WR/CB for the Rikers team some day. Nadir Barnwell messed up multiple times, too.

I have no issue with second chances, just wish RU wasn't the one doling them out because we will get the blame twice over if it does not work out.

Wrestling will bring him down to earth. You either work ur tail off and live clean or you have no shot in The B1G...Goodale knows what he's doing and wouldn't give him a shot unless he can possibly contribute.

195/285 were the two current weakest spots for returners in the lineup. They're doing their best to fix it, adding McDonald last year midyear for 285 and now Gross (plus, of course, our great recruits).

He's definitely going to get a chance to contribute once he gets himself back into wrestling shape.
