Shaheen Holloway Postgame vs. Rutgers

In the last 30 seconds of the interview, Holloway almost answered the question about how he felt about the SHU crowd, which the reporter hints at whether the crowd was into the game or not.

The answer given was what Holloway said in that he was happy they came out. And that they need to do a better job. But the "almost answered the question " was you could sense Holloway almost wanted to say the crowd wasn't a factor for his home team.

Which comes down to environment, fanbase and I think the RAC vs Prudential Center is such a drastic difference in feel for what college kids or players need at times. There isn't a real home court advantage if the crowd isn't buzzing and RU took the home town SHU fans and air out of the building, by hitting so many 3s in the 1st half and playing harder. The Davis and Fernandes pressure, pushed SHU off their games.

I think Holloway wanted to say "if the crowd was louder or maybe that would have helped"......but that's what makes the RAC difficult. If RU was trailing and then cut a lead from 14 to 8 and then 6, the RAC noise would have been through the roof......last night the SHU fans didn't bring that type of element and you could sense that Holloway wanted to say it, but you could tell that not saying it, is kinda what could have made a difference in the 2nd half.

Is the RAC still difficult? We've lost four straight conference games there

Making shots is what matters.Long scoring droughts impacts crowd participation and effectiveness in changing game result.
I thought the crowd was loud last game, trying to will the team on to no avail. Great venue for sure but not sure it’s paid dividends this year so far.

I am not looking back on last year's debacles....this year's roster is developing and the point is Holloway didn't get anything from the crowd, to impact RU or the game. Part of that was RU taking them out of the game, but the SHU fans probably saw RUs last 2 games and how SHU has played and they've lost confidence at SHU.

They've played USC, Iowa, Baylor and now RU and are 0-4 against Power 5 programs. If you have a home game against RU, the crowd noise needs to be a factor and just wasn't last night.

RU has a home court advantage, despite what happened last year or vs Illinois. The RU fan base and RAC is still a factor, anyone looking at how talented Illinois actually is, now has to understand it's just one game. I feel like Mississippi State in Newark now becomes The Rock Part 2. That game needs to be the RAC for RU to build some confidence......Mississippi State is significantly better than Seton Hall.

My younger cuz, a SHU fan at the game , said he and his buds tried to get a Defense chant going a few times and other Hall fans around him sat quietly. He was pissed there were lots of RU fans around him in Section 13 , Hall fans are usually louder , they may lack confidence in their team right now.

Looks like RU traveled well through the secondary resale ticket sites that I posted on TKR.
I heard the RU chants loud on tv

I was at the game and you can tell how much their fans despise us. lol. I did enjoy hanging out on the street having beers from American Whiskey, a good crowd excited for the game. Many "F Rutgers" being yelled as we were walking around the concourse.

Great to see SHU fans walking out with 8 minutes left, and the RU chants taking over their home court.

“Home court” … put it in quotes, please. We can go back to not thinking about them for 364 days while they wish they could get into Rutgers.

They cut the lead to 5 with under a minute left, and there were very few SH fans left to see. Horrible fan base.

Rutgers fans leave early as well in similar situations

From first hand accounts Hall fans showed up well last night but since Rutgers punched their team in the guy early and continued to outplay SHU, the Rutgers contingent in the arena was actually louder

Sha: “ Rutgers out-toughed us and out-played us”

You are wrong - if you actually attended a game at the RAC you would see. We looked horrible against Illinois and the place was still mostly full.

it was still full at The RAC late in the 2nd half vs Illinois ?
Doubt it bruh.

I’ve been to games at The RAC that emptied out. You’re being silly
Yes if you had any reading comprehension skills you would understand what I wrote. There were still many fans (never said full) left with us down big against Illinois, there were very few SH fans left down 5 wil under a min to go.

I was at the game last night with my better half in section 13. She was the blonde yelling ref you suck to that little ref who was killing us lol. There were a couple RU fans near us, but the Hall fans came strong. Clearly sold out minus the upper bowl. Fans around us died out every time RU made a run. Nice size arena for a home team and I expected more from the SHU fans. But can't blame the crowd when there's nothing to cheer about.

At least he didn't have a childish meltdown, big progress for him
the way that game started and pretty much continued kind of had him silenced. He seemed to almost be convinced things just were not going to get better.

SHU fans were too busy with the "F-you Rutgers" chants to direct cheers for their players. But as many have said, if SHU played better, their fans would have been more responsive. SH students clearing out in the second half reminded me how our student section empties when we aren't winning in the football stadium.

I don't like this. Sha and their players seem to nice, and too complimentary of us. Richmond and Sha both "happy" to see Mag back out on the court?! I mean, I get it, and it's appreciated, but it's too nicey nice. 10 years ago, heck, even 5, not sure stuff like that is said. I think @Geo_Baker_1 ruined it when he became besties with Myles Powell. Haha. Kidding. But still. These pressers are making me hate them less, lol

Exactly, students get bored pretty quickly.

There was a ton if energy at the Rock. The student section was amped up when the game started. Trust me I was right there getting booed by the entire section and drinks thrown at me when I walked in.

Rutgers dagger 3's and taking an early lead prevented the fans from really getting into it. Every time they came back to striking distance we made killer 3's or a big Cliff block etc

If SHU was winning or it was a back and forth game the fans would have been great. Just like all fans basically, if a team is losing by double digits and getting out hustled it's going to limit the fan noise. I would blame the SHU performance on the court, not the fans

Holloway likes to throw his team and now I guess the fans under the bus. It's not the first time !

I was worried abut Scnagg as I saw him make his grand appearance right before tip off and right next to the SHU Student Sections...lol.

I sat in Section 18 and it was primarily a mature season ticket fan SHU Section.

They were amped at the beginning of the game but became muzzled when we hit 3's and anniliated them defensively.

As I stated in another post, I was surprised how little their fans knew about us:

- 1 SHU fan asked me "who is this guy Griffiths and where is he from ?" after he hit his first few 3's.
- Another fan had no idea who Mag was as I was trying to explain how much of a difference he means to us.

Most of the SHU fans left with about 5-8 minutes left in the game.

SHU fan next to me couldn't believe "this loser in the goggles" was hitting 3's on them. Was shocked when I told him he was the highest rated recruit on either roster

Maybe they should give out tvs to get them to stay

On noise during SHU's comeback.. TV announcers mentioned that many fans had left earlier while Rutgers was ahead double-digits late.

I think SHU could have been helped by a HOSTILE crowd in their home arena had they opened the upper deck and it filled with Rutgers fans.. which is not a given.

I wonder about SHU's deal with Prudential Center... do they pay a set fee per game.. is it a percent of the gate.. why wouldn't the Prudential Center and its vendors want more people at the games even if they are opposing fans?

And what about taxes.. that Center have a favorable deal for taxes? Why wouldn't NJ want them to maximize taxable revenues by opening the upper deck for the Rutgers game?

To be fair, it's hard to get any type of buzz if the facility is half empty. It's an 18K seat arena with 10K in attendance -- that's a lot of empty space for sound to float around in.

It’s solely SHU’s decision to open the upper deck or not.
They would benefit from the extra ticket sales if enough were sold.

Prudential Center, the City of Newark and the State of NJ would also have benefited with the extra tax revenues per ticket and concession revenues.
Don’t worry @Scangg , none of the proceeds from your Miller Lite purchase go to SHU. Lol.

Plus the City of Newark gets a portion of parking fees in lots adjacent to the arena.

SHU simply wanted to maintain the majority of fans inside so they tarped off the upper deck.
It clearly didn’t help
their athletic dept could certainly use the extra revenues but they chose against it

It’s not half empty though, you would not know the upper level existed.

It’s completely blocked out. You don’t see any seating up top. The lower level was full and I heard most of the suites and other suite level premium seating was taken.

SHU didn’t have many exciting plays nor any dunks that get fans pumped. RU took their crowd out of the game.

Same here the guys behind me were dumfounded by him.
