Kid continues to impress. He does a lot of things very well on both ends of the floor. The biggest surprise of the season thus far for me.
Kudos to the coaching staff also for bringing him along so quickly. There we're a lot of doubters (me included), going into the season. He's a legit big10 player.

He didn’t get on the floor until 7 games into the season I believe against Michigan State. In the few minutes he got, he looked to be our best big man - clearly better than Doorson. Yet Pikiell hardly played him. At least he is playing now but I still don’t get what the issue was.

Pike was giving Issa a try at the 4 spot, banging in the paint with the bigs

Greene is right but Carter and Doorson had to play to slow Pardon down.....Doorson isn't quick enough to stay with him, but tall and strong enough to muscle him. Carter is OK size wise but we needed him on offense more.

The solution is a healthy Eugene to be both

NJH,

We have had some back and forth over a year regarding Shaq Carter. How could a JUCO not find a way to make him a useful player on the offensive end? Was he hurt? Poor coaching? Guards that had no interest in getting it to the low post?

I had a preconception of what Shaq Carter was going to be and quite frankly he is nothing like what I expected.

My jury is still out on what kind of basktball player he is. I still am not sure where he fits on a B1G roster or even this one. I do know he played 32+ minutes and Myles played like 12 which tells me something. Contrary what some people are saying I trust the staff knows what they are doing.

He’s actually not what I expected either. Street & Smith’s said he was potentially the best JUCO college big man prior to his sophomore season. Then, after a sub-par sophomore season, I truly thought he was going to be a stiff who could only provide put-backs from two feet out.

Turns out he’s somewhere in beteeen but if you watch him closely, he’s a smart player with some definite skill. He positions himself better than our other bigs and knows what he’s doing out there.
Johnson has more potential, but Carter is our best big right now. Doorson’s only edge is his sheer size.

Furthermore, a year in our S&C program is going to be huge for Carter. Yes, he's a big, strong guy, but to me, there's some baby fat that needs to come off, and some more muscle to add. He's going to be chiseled next season.

Myles seemed to lack the strength that Carter had to play tough physical defense .

I believe we took him immediately after knowing we weren't getting a big kid who decided on the PAC 12.

Warren Washington was a stretch PF that is mobile and is capable of blocking shots as a weak side defender. I do not think however he was ahead of Carter in pecking order. Carter was recruited for months before we located Washington during the summer.

As far as Carter is concerned, he probably suffered the most from having Myles, Eugene and Doorson in the program and aware of the rotations. I also think he has to improve his passing out of the post.

But i never had a doubt he would contribute here based on the roster he played with that had other players on it and the handful of games online, showed they never ran any plays for their bigs.

He has scored when playing without having plays run for him in the offense, which is the upgrade from Candido, Doorson and similar to Freeman last year.

I wasn't actually surprised by the 3 pointer...he at least has good rotation on his shots. He's just not a leaper which is OK.

There was an open practice during the holidays where Mathis drove baseline for a right handed dunk, that Carter snuffed out at the rim. He let Mathis know he wasn't going to get that dunk on him....ironically Mathis smirked at him essentially saying Carter would get dunked on if it happened again.

I mention the dunk attempt because at that point i knew we had 2 players immediately that were different than years past. One wasn't OK with thinking he would be dunked on by a guard and the guard essentially thinking he will be dunked on if he gets airspace.

It wasn't a hostile exchange but a stark difference that shows up on game days. It was at that point I had seen enough to know a subtle but necessary change from usual RU teams was underway. And the bar on competition was raised. It would not shock me at all to see the nexr target or two in recruiting fit the profiles of Mathis and Carter....players that are going to challenge the people around them to raise their play.

I remember watching him his second JUCO year. No one ever looked to get him the ball. He could have scored 25 per game had his team looked inside. Instead it was a collection of mediocre guards forcing up shots - typical JUCO.

Carter is an excellent passer out of the post, our best.

Hmmm...not sure Willis. He might be our best (eugene when he does pass it out? Lol)...but I dont agree he is excellent. He has turned the ball over several times passing it out. But I will pay closer attention.

I do think Myles has the potential to be the best passer. But he tries to force it sometimes. When he gets more comfortable I think he will be much more effective. He seems to see the court really well.

Watch his passing against NW. One great example is at around 6:00 of the second half when Mathis ties the game off of Carter’s pass out of a double team. There are other examples.

The kid is good.

We should be shifting him to the five spot next year

Carter and Johnson sharing 40 minutes is good for 12-12 per night.

He should be a focus of our offense.

What's up Willis,

I love Shaq Carter. I think he should definitely get more inside touches. But he has had some problems dishing the ball when double teamed. I do think the more he sees it the better he will be at distributing the ball. It's pretty cool having a big man at Rutgers who can finish around the rim and even hit a 3!

Myles was a monster tonight...and passed beautifully
