SIAP - Genius byeweek move

Sad, but likely true.
Why?
I remember a lot of Staten Island HS teams going up to the Carrier Dome to play early season games.
Besides it cuts down on the travel costs for coaches from nationally ranked teams to get their visits
with NJ talent. Who's going to complain?

Nice.

NCAA will ban this in 3, 2, 1.......

I don't see why, doesn't Monmouth University host a high school holiday basketball tournament? They have been doing it for years as many colleges do so why can't a college host a hagh school football game? It is the NCAA so I could see them having one set of rules for basketball and another for football, but I don't see the difference.

It was a sarcastic post. When RU does something brilliant (like GS's camps in Fla), something seems to squash it. Someone is thinking at RU. Very refreshing.

I love the idea. Improve relations with NJ coaches and create an event that their fans will look forward to... Soon the top schools will be falling all over themselves to schedule for this. And get the top players in the state on campus!

It probably needs to go further with a 2nd set of match-ups between NJ schools and schools from NY, DE, and PA. For example have:
- Bosco play Cardinal O'Hara (PA)
- St Peters vs De Matha (MD)
- Wayne Hills vs New Rochelle (NY)
- Bergen Catholic vs St Anthony's - Melville (NY)

People have been saying we should do this for years - nice to see RU finally getting it. Would be nice to have enough folks present to do an R-U cheer or two.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great idea.

I'm sure schools in states that are lighter on in-state HS talent will complain that having these teams play on campus creates some sort of unfair advantage.

Sorry, misunderstood your post.

RU has rented out their Stadium for HS games on and off the past 2 decades. A few years ago opening game between Montclair and Union City or maybe it was SPP, was terrific.

And of course the NJSIAA puts playoff games at RU (not sure what the rental price is) for a long time now,

"Higgins said none of the participating schools is being charged to play at the stadium, but each is required to sell a specific allotment of tickets, "just to cover the cost" of playing at the stadium."

Wouldn't the paying 'cost of playing at the Stadium be the same as being 'charged' ? lol

The Scarlet Knights have signed their share of Piscataway players, most notably Anthony Davis. The Chiefs have reached the NJSIAA sectional final 15 times, winning eight titles, several of them at Rutgers University. They own a 36-16 all-time record in the playoffs.
