the mention yesterday of our size made me think of the 1966 team, our first trip to MSG for the NIT....a team that featured Bob Lloyd and Jim Valvano. The center, Doug Clark, was the tallest
player at 6’5”. The forwards were 6’4” and 6’3”. Lloyd was 6’1” and Valvano. an even 6’. What a
difference a half century makes!

Wasn't Robinson or Harley the center? I think they were on the '65-'66 team. Don't remember much about '66-'67, but do remember going to the Garden to see the NIT games. Lloyd set a scoring record for the NIT that lasted quite awhile. Lost to Southern Illinois led by Walt Frazier.
Of course, all the above is dependent upon how good, or bad, my memory is.

Robinson was a forward. Was a great passer. Clark was the center only because he was the tallest guy and could not play more than a foot from the basket.

I was a frosh in ‘70. I think our starters were Gene Armstead, Steve Zielinski, John McFadden, Bob Wenzel, and either James Brown or Jim Snodgrass. Except for guards had pretty good size.

Also, the 1969 RU NIT squad was in the running for the tournament invite along with U Of Tenn under Ray Mears. We both were invited and we let Tenn practice in the Barn. As it turned out we ended up playing them in the first round and lost that game. Go figure.

I think Barry Milankow was another big guy underneath, 6'6" or so I think.
