Skyy Clark Leaving Illinois

Apparently he lost his starting job a couple games ago. Illinois board seems to think he won't be the last to go either.

Jahvon Quinerly all over again. 5-star Quinerly, ex-Villanova, is doing a great job at Alabama.

Recruiting for fit > recruiting for stars.
It's really starting to look that way. No one denies that you need to go after talent whenever possible, but you have to have a vision of how the talent is going to fit together and whether or not the talent is committed to the overall philosophy of how you play.

I really think some recruits have selective hearing when it comes to parts of the recruiting discussion. They hear the parts about them having a prominent role and being a key piece of the building the program, but don't hear the part about putting in the work and earning PT, etc.

The thing about building through the transfer portal is you have no idea how these guys need to be coached. Pikiell knows exactly what sort of coaching guys like Paul and Caleb and Cliff and Mawot respond to. Figuring out a few new players a year is one thing but figuring out 8 or 9 can be a nightmare.

It's not that it can't work (see Kansas State) but it's harder than it looks.

Apparently the Illinois TOS writers are hinting that this isn't the end of the bad news. Possible injury to a major player.

We’re going to run them out of their own gym.
Too early to say for sure. We don't play them for over a month. If we played them Sunday, I would agree with you. They have time to get right with whoever is still on the roster/rotation by the time we get them.

Wish we were playing Illinois now. Who knows maybe they get their act together later in the season

It's possible this team is just falling apart though and won't recover

Recruiting for fit > recruiting for stars.
Skyy Clark…committed to DePaul in eighth grade, Kentucky as a Junior, and Illinois as a 5 star senior. Now walking away for personal reasons. Lots going on with this kid. Hope he gets it together.

Sadly many of these 5 star types are not used to playing team ball IMO. Then you get to big time ball and people and coaches who need to win aren't kissing your ass all day if you don't put the work in and play well.

His statement says he loves Illinois and his teammates - he is stepping away to focus on a personal family matter. Some of you guys must have never taken bereavement or time off work in your adult lives let alone when you were 18. A lot of horrible, judging others comments in this thread forgetting these kids are human and real human issues come up in their lives
