For years we've been hearing about slowly working out way up to the top of the football world, getting a bit better over time, building a base and making incremental improvements to get to where we want to be (Top 25ish, or better).
I guess my question is, which teams have done that? Just a bit better each year over a long time? Most of the teams I can think of that have broken through were fairly mediocre to bad until suddenly they weren't and then, within 1-2 years, they were good.
Maybe that's me just missing the building process when looking from the outside, but it seems to me that when a team is improving and breaks through it happens fairly quickly and fairly obviously (most of the time).
