Sounds like tampering

The concept of tampering is standard practice. It’s probably not tampering by the definition of the rule because there’s always a go-between. In a world where people are more connected than ever it’s just an inevitability that you can’t adjudicate tampering outside of a coaching staff member of another team caught red handed anyway.

Think abt when another job calls you for a position when u still have your old job haha. It happens everywhere. Sucks that it’s this late in the process and there’s zero chance we fill cam’s spot. But hopefully Paul n cliff come back and we’ll see what’s what next season.

It's an issue for every sports at every level unfornatuely.
And nobody seems to have found a good way to deal with it.
Players and teams seem to always be 1 step ahead of leagues or governing bodies.

The best is when free agent players agree to complicated multi year contracts with a new team 5 minutes after free agency opens at 12:05am. Must have been an really quick and intense negotiation.

Tampering has always been there and always will be there.

Remember when we all knew Douby was going to transfer to Louisville ?

There are rules? (seriously asking)
13.1.1.3 Four-Year College Prospective Student-Athletes. An athletics staff member or other representative of the institution's athletics interests shall not make contact with the student-athlete of another NCAA or NAIA four-year collegiate institution, directly or indirectly, without first obtaining the written permission of the first institution's athletics director (or an athletics administrator designated by the athletics director) to do so, regardless of who makes the initial contact

Thanks. I guess with no enforcement or penalty its meaningless. And we all know that an amoeba has a stronger backbone than the NCAA.

Plausible deniability

Lotta twitter talk that it's Georgetown
Well, at least he can work toward a meaningful grad degree there. It will be interesting to see where he ends up. AFAIK, all he has to do for a grad year transfer is to graduate and then attend somewhere in a program that his previous institution did not offer. So he might "officially" be working toward some strange degree that a massive institution like Rutgers does not offer. Doctor of Theology maybe?

Good luck Cam, we hardly knew ya!.. but appreciated you a great deal.

NIL is the end of the world and many here said so.

PS.. I hope he taught a few guys to shoot on his way out.

There is nobody enforcing the rules
And there are some stand up coaches like Pike and others like Cooley and Pitino who ignore rules and will try to win at any cost. You think Cooley is going give Cam minutes when he goes into a slump again for 3-4 weeks You think he’ll care about his mental well being. Cooley and Ricky will punt players just as quickly as they cheat if they don’t perform.

I understand the lure of money. There are other things to consider.

Geez.. had not considered Pitino. If Cam intends on a coaching career down the road.. getting a big-name coach on the resume could help.

Why is there zero chance we fill his spot? The portal is full of players we can recruit and there are tons of grad transfers that can transfer wherever and whenever they want.

Cam has zero social media. He was praised for his focus and work ethic like an old school college grinder. That’s why it is so surprising. Gtown is going to be at best a .500 team. Crazy that winning is so secondary now. If he were poached by a UK as a missing piece to a potential championship team, I’d help pack his bags.

You’re not wrong, just a gut feeling. If we fill it, it’s gonna be like an Agee type of fill (ie skill wise) whereas if he had left months ago, maybe we could have gotten someone else

I don't know if Cam graduated or not, but either way he's done with his 'four years' You'll notice this all happened after graduation weekend.

Also 'representative of the institution's athletics interests' is tough to define in the NIL world. 'Hey....I'll pay you to make appearances at my events if you just happen to move to Indiana, wink wink...You can still play for Rutgers if you want....but it would be a long commute. I hear there's a university that I have no affilitation to much closer...just saying'

Since this seems like a NIL move and NIL is completely “separate” from the school or team…it is difficult to penalize the team and they have a degree of separation. Even though we all know that is BS

Cam graduated last week

If we are indeed pretty clean when it comes to how we use the portal and bring in transfers, which from the evidence seems to be the case, I see no reason why we shouldn’t very publicly file a complaint with the NCAA for both the Mag and Cam situations since both were clearly not in the portal when conversations started. It might not go anywhere, but maybe it would embarrass the NCAA enough that there would be some repercussions.

….but maybe it would embarrass the NCAA enough that there would be some repercussions.

Respectfully this is very naive. The NCAA is a useless shameless spineless organization. They have proven this unequivocally for decades. “Embarrassment” isn’t in their DNA

The whole NIL mess is due to their avoidance of the issue for a very long time. Since they refused to address the NIL issue the matter had to be addressed in the courts.

Maybe if the NCAA had dealt with the matter and developed reasonable rules for kids to paid for the use of their NIL we wouldnt be in this rule-less free-for-all. Instead they put their heads in the sand

I don’t disagree, but what do we have to lose? The only thing I could think of is there could be some pushback from the BIG because there are other teams in the league behaving this way.

With all the crap going on it is hard to get worked up about an alleged tampering incident.

That NCAA Golden Goose for schools and now players will ultimately end up on life support unless this gets organized.
