Sparta, NJ's Sean McGuire, QB in-waiting at Florida State, must be thrilled with Everett Golson arriving in Tallahassee. Who knows, maybe the following year, when Golson is gone, Florida State reloads with another graduate transfer QB to solidfy McGuire's status as permanent QB in-waiting. These are the type of roster maneuvers that separate the big boys from the others. Jim Harbaugh and Urban Meyer and James Franklin would pull a maeuver like this, but I doubt we'd ever see it in Piscataway.

I don't consider this a bad thing.

Sean McGuire made his choice, now he has to live with Golson coming in to be the man, or transfer out .
Don't know if he'd have to drop to a lower level or be able to sit a year without losing any eligibility,
since his redshirt year was burned as a freshman and is a RS Jr now.
Was 25 for 49 with 2 ints 1 TD in 2014 and 13 for 21 with 2 ints and 2 TDs
Think when a RS senior Sean might have to fight 5* class of 2015 Malik Henry off or 2015's 4* Johnson
I think FSU's having Golson keeping the eat warm for one of those two.
But 4* class of 2014 J.J. Cosentino out of Pittsburgh, might just be in the mix in 2016
Was on scout team in 2014.
Don't think Sean is destined to be the Seminoles starting QB ever, the way it looks to me (now)
and wouldn't be surprised if he left.

No offense. I have met sean and he is a great kid. But he would be third string here. And is a jersey kid.

This is a great move for the Noles.

We have brought many 5th year seniors.

Once a player gets into a college program, stars don't matter. Sean could still emerge to beat out Golson - the guy struggled and went to FSU. That doesn't mean he is being penciled in as the starter. FSU coaches did the right thing, lets bring in talent and figure it out later - someone will rise to the top, if its Golson fine, if its someone else fine.

What do you think is happening here, if Rettig comes on and proves he can start fine, if Laviano continues his development and beats out everyone great. Or if Dare comes in and blows those guys away even better. I hope you're not suggesting Flood is saying hey Rettig is a 4* Im going to start him even though Laviano is clearly the #1 because Rettig was labeled by Rivals as a 4*, LOL. I also don't believe players think the same way, else a guy like PJ never starts, doesn't even try.

Thought the same thing. I guess he means we wouldn't bring someone like Golson with this academic baggage? If so, he's right. After the Rice, Tyree, and Nelson brouhaha's, we'll be passing for a while.

Think Sean's only offer besides FSU was Buffalo and can imagine how him transferring here ( if he decides to leave FSU) would be accepted
by some of the members of this board

Rice was never a problem before or during his RU time.
Tyree was proven BS and false allegations shouldn't count.
Nelson is the only example that might hold water, because RU accepted him as a transfer , but dumped him quickly after
that incident. He was the one attacked after walking away from someone he had shoved, but Nelson kicking the man after another person knocked him down was inexcusable.
Some of the charges from that mess were dismissed and Nelson was convicted of a minor assault charge because of kicking the man while he was down

I don't think your examples are valid ones in the way you seem to imply guilt , but in Nelson's case you might have a valid point in the way most think of that "brouhaha".

Don't get the comment you would never see this in Piscataway. Really? We have a successful history bringing in these transfers: linebacker from sc, turzilli, dill, toler, etc. we would gave had receiver from tcu this year if he had qualified. So we have already seen this in Piscataway.

Didn't we just scoop up Hayden Rettig? Also, it's not like there are a bunch of QB graduate transfers who are looking to come to RU

James coley liked him when he was at Fsu (now the oc at university at Miami).

Kid couldn't play at Rutgers .

Don't know if he'd be a good get or not, but I won't automatically dismiss him being an asset to any team he's on

Obviously a requirement of the program to have this boards blessing before acting on a recruit or transfer.

Wrong Rice. I meant the white one, ;)

Just listed certain cases of bad PR over the last few years that would make us shy of unnecessary controversy.

My bad
The one you meant, trying to forget:eek:
But he does make your point about RU not needing more bad PR.

Lots of things to knock the factories for but not this

As Lombardi said "winning is the only thing".

Factory or not, winning for the fan base and program is the only thing that the head coach must be loyal to.

Great fit for Fsu

The transfers you mention are complementary players. Golson is coming in as a one year boost, in a leadership role, after shopping himself around. He will play a major role. Golson was expelled for test cheating -- character/trust/academic issues. A perfect successor to Jameis Winston. We know Coach Flood will never be confused with Jimbo Fisher. And this is one area where the distinction is clear.

McGuire committed early to FSU which explains the fact he had few offers. Winston committed late in the process and that did not seem to bother Sean than so I doubt Golsen bothers him now. From what I have heard from his former classmates at SHP, he loves it in Florida.Expect him to stay put.

Don't be so set on Golson winning the starting job. Kid fumbled every single game last year and ball security is a huge issue with him

You are delusional is you don't think Golston is the starter. They are not saving him for mop up duty and the Chattanooga game.
