Complete renovation announced for Welsh-Ryan arena
Leadership gift from Patrick and Shirley Ryan to support project

If you read through it the needs sounds familiar. Maybe we can borrow the plans when they are done?

Though we really could use one of these:
"The new $10 million commitment from Steve and Sue Wilson brings the family’s giving to more than $27 million through We Will. The Campaign for Northwestern. The Wilsons previously provided $15 million in support of Northwestern’s lakefront athletics facilities, as well as other gifts to the campaign."

Winning is a strong impetus for big donors to contribute .Rutgers will now have the dubious honor of the longest wait for a NCAA bid after Northwestern gets a invite after this season.

They have huge donors before this season.

New Football Stadium and new football facility will put them on a par with almost everybody in the Big Ten and better than most. It's opening this Fall.

Finally spending money on Athletics------their facilities were ancient.

Northwestern's alumni are among the most loyal and generous in the entire country. It's endowment is one of the largest at approximately ten billion dollars. When they decided recently to upgrade their athletic facilities they raised 250 million dollars in a few years - all of it private donations. They have one of the world's truly elite MBA programs and recently decided to build a new facility. It is an enormous, state of the art, structure on the lake. They are in the process of remodeling many of their dormitories and constructing additional housing. For their theatre program they have not just one, but two, gorgeous performing arts venues side by side, each designed for different performing arts. There are very few schools that can compete with Northwestern in terms of financial resources.

Well aware----my daughter is a grad-----her husband played baseball there.

Season ticket holders in football and hoops.

Welsh arena is pit and a glorified HS gym with more bench seats than a HS

What's the story with Football?

Been to Ryan Field. Dumpiest stadium I've ever seen, more than Legion Field for those who made the trip to Alabama. They put an infamous "tarp" over a good portion of the sideline, and even so half of their stadium is often filled with visitors.

Dave is right-----some reasons for that though.

First of all there was no commitment to Facilities and raising the money for them-------that changed. The new stadium is going to be top of the line and the adjacent football facility will be too.

Secondly there has been historically a student body where half of them don't even know there is a football game. There's also a group that tailgates and never goes into the game. NW isn't your typical undergrad Big Ten student body-----many with no interest in athletics.

In spite of all this they've won 10 games twice in the last 5 years----kudos to Coach Fitz and his staff who IMO get the max out of what they have. Collins reminds me of him in many respects. I think he'll be a strong candidate to be the next guy at Duke.

Finally NW with their small student body and the other factors I mentioned doesn't have a big season ticket base and visiting Big Ten school fans know they can get a ticket and enjoy a weekend in Chicago which is within driving distance for most of them.

What they're building right now is a new practice facility on the lakefront. There is no new football stadium for now.

Wrong. Oregon State's last bid was 1990.

My bad I thought there was a stadium being built for 2018 alongside the facility.
