We are going in to see the basketball game against St. John's on Saturday.

Does anyone know what would be a good sports bar to get some food, have a few drinks and watch our Indiana game close to the arena?

Thanks,
Groz

Thank you. I logged on to ask that same question....

There used to be one on Union Turnpike diagonally across street from campus. Don't know if still open and can't remember name-- do a Google search. I'm sure you can find one somewhere down Union Tkp but you may need auto.

Thanks. I had done a google search and called a couple of the places on Union Tpke. Was just wondering if anyone here had been there recently at all.(have no idea why someone would have been. LOL) I remember going to a place when we played there when Eddie was coaching.

Best of Luck,

No sports bars near St. John’s. No bars at all near St. John’s any more.

Today, neighborhood residents are Asian and Jewish mostly, super demographics for Asian and Kosher restaurants, horrible demographics for drinking establishments.

Best bet would be take LIRR from Penn Station to Forest Hills. A 10-15 minute train ride to a neighborhood teeming with bars. Then at half time take an Uber from bar to St. John’s game.

bringing back some memories! I went to law school at st johns after graduating from Rutgers. That bar was called Last Call and was a favorite among law students, though it was a Verizon store last time I was there (and it wasnt a sports bar anyway). There was a sports bar down Union Tpke a block or so further away called Sly Fox Inn though Im pretty sure that closed down as well. St Johns is mostly a commuter school, alas not many bars in the area

After glancing at a map, Forest Hills might be the answer....

Not sure if this place is still open or decent.....

Snug bar with a wood-clad interior like a train car featuring sports on TV, plus happy hour deals.
Service options: Dine-in · Takeout · No delivery
PreGame Sports Bar & Lounge

Address: 178-23 Hillside Ave., Jamaica, NY 11432

You guys better do some research on this area of Hillside ave. I'd head to the Floral Park area.

Id recommend Austin's Ale House, 82-70 Austin St
We ended up going to Austin's Ale House. Decent sports bar, BUT, they did not have the Big Ten Network(had directv, but didn't subscribe to BTN). Ended up watching some of the Ohio State game and our game on my phone.

Got to the arena fairly early and was watching on my phone, while sitting next to Marco, who was also watching on his phone.

Best of Luck,

I drove in later and listened via Sirius XM on the ride in. Awful announcing.

Try parking on Austin Street--it's impossible. And you can't park in most of Forest Hills unless a home owner.
The good news was we were able to get a parking spot on Austin Street, the bad news was that the bar didn't have BTN. LOL

Best of Luck,
Groz
