With our recent hires - it seems like the state of Rutgers just got a whole lot bigger
Our new OC has a great reputation for recruiting, as Houston far and away has the best 2016 class of any non p5 school - led by players in skill positions. His strength seems to be on Texas which was never an area of focus for us. Ash and Okruch both seem to have ties in the Midwest, which is another area we have never worked . It seems particularly important that we retain EJ to keep our ties to NJ while HS coaches get to know Ash and his staff
Based on his few hires thus far, it really seems like Ash is going for the best people he knows, without regards to recruiting ties, hopefully that changes a bit with position coaches, but this will certainly be a young, energetic staff and should be interesting to see if our recruiting takes more of a national profile. Flood was beginning to learn the lesson that the NJ players were not coming to Rutgers because of state pride, but if you build it, they will come. Seems like Ash is on his way, to laying down the concrete
finally, on a related topic, if someone told you a month ago that we were going to get a younger, less arrogant version of Schiano, but instead of running the same 1950's offense, we would switch to an up-tempo spread with a running QB, that puts up points Big12 style, who would have signed up for that.
Up tempo offense with a Big 10 defense - the concept just seems to easy for others not to have tried it
