State politicians are going to screw Rutgers Athletics one way or another…

Pascrell has been on a one man mission for a few years now. I believe he's losing to retirement his lapdog in the NJ Legislature.

Do you seriously believe House members from SEC, B12, B10, ACC, and other conference states are going to back him?

Glad to see our federal government tackling such meaningful issues to the American people.

Pascrell has been in politics for 35 years. Name one achievement? I'll wait. We have some of the weakest federal legislators in the country.
He has better things to do -- like find more ways to enrich his personal finances

Pascrell is an angry man and misguided:

"“Universities’ tax-exempt status is an important pillar of our higher education system, but it is not a blank check from taxpayers to dole out gargantuan coaching contracts with lavish benefits,” he said, suggesting that income from college athletic programs could fall under the Unrelated Business Income Tax."

“If you don’t pay the taxes, Joe over here has to pay the taxes, who cleans the street every day or who’s a congressman every day,” Pascrell said.

Cry me a river.

Next up: No more writeoffs for donations to the R Fund?

Maybe someone should explain to him that an expensive football and men's basketball coach are the engine that fuels B1G membership and $70-90 million media rights deals that funds all the necessary Title IX sports that that are money sinkholes and don't generate any revenue. Perhaps he could chair a subcommittee on the need to eliminate all the non-revenue generating sports so that only football and men's basketball can receive distributions from conference media rights.

The above is a silly example of how one can go to extremes if they don't think things through. Our federal representatives from both parties are a disgrace to this state and a huge liability.

So Pascrell wants to subject Rutgers' athletics to the UBIT? Well Bill, I got news for you, Rutgers athletics doesn't turn a profit. And I'm not sure if you broke out RU Football it would show a profit. And if you allowed it to depreciate SHI Stadium I guarantee it.

A machine politics hack trying to curry favor with the SL.

Sounds like a better discussion for states with athletic programs that have net income. Motion to table.

I don't want them to have ideas. I want them to fight for the citizens of New Jersey and to not be pathetic underachievers.
Too late our taxes are out the roof and highest in the nation. Crime is crazy as well so us NJ citizens are already screwed .

There's good news and bad news. The good news is that this is not going to pass Congress. The bad news is that a Congressman sponsors legislation like this when he thinks it will please more of his constituents than will displease them.. If Pascrell's right in thinking that, then we have a problem in terms of having public support within New Jersey. That's not good at all for the future of our athletic program.

BTW, Pascrell's Congressional district is the 9th. It covers some towns in Passaic and Bergen counties; here's a description with a map. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Jersey's_9th_congressional_district Those of you who live in the district might want to express your views to him.

Got redistricted out of his district based on the 2020 census as it's less Bergen County than in the past. Paterson was added so it's ultra safe for a Democrat. Machine pol so I don't think he much cares about RU athletics one way or the other.

While he may be safe from a Republican challenge, he is not necessarily safe from a primary challenge by another Democrat. So, like every other politician on the face of the earth, he does 99% of what he does based on his perception of what will make him more popular with his constituents. And it's a problem that he thinks that pushing legislation that's bad for our athletic program is something that will make him more popular. After all, can you imagine a Congressman from Ohio introducing such a bill? Can you imagine a Congressman from Ohio trying to use Ohio State as an example of overcompensation of coaches? He's be laughed out of office no matter how safe the district. But Pascrell evidently thinks that going after our athletic program will help him.

I'm aware of Ohio, and for that matter Michigan, Illinois, Nebraska and Wisconsin. One side of my family was from Ohio and at a 2006 family reunion I was being told how OSU was going to snag Anthony Davis. And they went to Miami of Ohio. How many NJ families do know would track recruiting at a school they didn't attend?

Things are different in NJ. A machine pol like Pascral is much more worried about getting primaried by an AOC wannabe than an RU booster. They tried to do it to Josh Gotthiemer in the district I'm now in. And the proposal he made fits heading off that potential.

Of course he's more worried about being primaried by an AOC wannabe than a Rutgers booster. That's why he's taking a position that would appeal to a a potential AOC supporter rather than a position that would appeal to a Rutgers booster. He thinks that in his district it's not unpopular to bash Rutgers athletics -- that in fact, bashing Rutgers athletics is good for him politically. That's my point - the fact that he thinks bashing Rutgers athletics is good for him politically is yet more evidence that Rutgers athletics is not that popular in New Jersey.

Maybe instead we charge each illegal $1,000 to cross the border. With Biden at the helm thats over $2 Billion a year
Maybe instead ex POtuS Trump should pay his fair share of Taxes instead of only $500 annually in Federal Income Taxes. Over the years that’s more than $2 Billion.

Yeah but it’s 2022 crime is acceptable now .
You are wrong on NJ as usual.
New Jersey is the 5th safest state in the Country and crime is going down.

Arkansas,Tennessee, South Carolina, Louisiana,Alaska, along with DC among the highest states with most crime.

How did we get on the subjects of crime and Trump's taxes? What do they have to do with the original topic, which (unlike crime and Trump's taxes) has to do with Rutgers athletics?

Maybe instead we charge $1000 for each time you and your friends on the CE board predict something incorrectly

Rutgers could then hire Nick Saban as a waterboy
