Dino Babers, and numerous other solid candidates.

Why no talk about Dino? I'm sure we will contact him. Lots of other guys still available too. It seems odd that all of the talk has distilled down to a giant argument over Al Golden. Golden (and the 2 OSU assistants) would all take the job if offered. The fact that they have not been hired yet, tends to show me we are still looking, or trying to sell Mullen or Schiano.

At least I hope...

I like Babers resume almost as much as anyone. I was surprised his name hasn't been thrown around for any vacancy. Also, I'm curious if Butch Davis has any interest. Obviously he was all about the Miami job, but I think we would be a good match.

Wouldn't Butch Davis have too many red flags with the Academic issues when he was coach? He was never mentioned in the report, but I don't think that is where we would go.

Is it a done deal yet? If Rutgers wanted him, we could probably get him. Syrcause reportedly offered Frost like $1.5mm.

Golden is still available to, and will be when the musical chairs finally stop. Unless Rutgers gives him a seat. (Nobody else will.)

Babers will be looked at as a Midwestern coach with no N.J. ties. We hired one of those in basketball, Gary Waters, and thankfully we ran him out of town. Let's just make a multi millionaire out of some bigger name retread and continue on the road to mediocrity. $$$$

Babers said he wouldn't do anything before the championship game which is Friday. Felt it was unfair to his players. I believe Syracuse will announce him as the new HC over the weekend.

why is that? UNC is being talked about with glowing terms, may make the playoff, and nobody seems to give a crap about cheating as long as you win (of course this is sarcasm)...

He claims he hasn't interviewed and will be open after Friday. So Syracuse at best will have him there Saturday. We show interest we can interview before Syracuse hires.

Harbaugh and Urban Meyer are really using their ties to NJ to clean up, eh? Oh wait. This ridiculous need for "ties to NJ" are the most overrated thing ever, and are the reason we constantly find ourselves in the Paterno/Schiano realm of candidates. We need to move on. A good coach will win here. A charismatic coach will recruit here. A charismatic coach who wins here will take us to the promised land. Gary Waters was about as exciting as a goldfish -- and we would have been a hell of a lot better off had he stayed, and we not hired a parochial NJ guy wtih great ties to replace him. I keep waiting for the RU admin to wake up on this. All the parochial New Jerseyans recommend a New Jersey guy, and Rutgers goes nowhere.

Hire Babers for $2.5 and give him $2.5 to spend on coordinators. He will come here and we will have a LOT of success. Guy can flat out coach. Let him get a strong DC and his weakness is solved. He has been all over the country and been successful everywhere he has gone.

I am also surprised no one has talked about Carey. Once you are plumbing the depths of OSU assistants, these guys seem like very viable alternatives who have at least proven they can be a head coach. One would surely hope we have at least made contact.

You nailed it, especially on Waters. Last winning men's basketball coach we had. 2005. Yikes. I've watched several Babers press conferences, and he has swagger.

Good God, Waters is Roy Williams compared to the men's BB coaches we had since his departure.

Old retired A&M guy here who came over to check on your coaching search. Dino Babers has had an interesting career. R C Slocum hired him as OC at A&M, but by mid season he had done nothing with the offense--Slocum demoted him and made Kevin Sumlin the OC. This happened on Monday and the following Saturday A&M upset the then #1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners. (still didn't help Slocum as he was fired at then end of the year). Babers has since worked for Art Briles at Baylor and learned offensive scheme from the offensive master.

Hope you guys get a great coach!

Because MAC straight to P5 hasnt really worked out since Gary Pinkel went to Missouri 15 years ago. Babers has shown no sign that he can recruit. Its a risk that RU probably doesnt want to take - it might pay off - but if he flames out - it will make the Flood era look like Saban were coaching here.

Notice all of the original list (GOlden, Schiano, Cristoabl, Fleck) were all guys who are known for recruiting first and foremost. Which makes sense. Ifwe are going to hire a low salary guy - it makes sense to hire one who will leave a full cupboard in five years when we have money.

Meyers and Harbaugh can sell thsemvles AND their school. Its not even applies to oranges - its apples to goldfish.

If you're going to go that route - unproven coach who won at a lower conference, I think there are better options. Rhule for one would be better. Jeff Brohm is another one.

How many guys can Hobbs and company interview if they hope to hire a coach next week. They have commits coming in December 11th so I would hope they have a coach by then. Do we have the players to run his system?

I know there are lots of prospective coaches out there but I wonder how many of them are actually being considered at this point. These rumors have gone from Christobal, Schiano, Golden and a few others over to Ash, Golden and Warringer. I'm starting to wonder if any of the reports are even close to correct.
