You will all probably think someone hijacked my computer given the tempered remarks below, as historically after bad losses I have been accused of being, shall we say, a bit to vitriolic. And maybe its just getting older and having some perspective. But here is a reality check:
1. A bad loss to be sure but in many ways some great efforts:
a. Grant's was perhaps the best special teams effort ever at Rutgers in a single game.
b. Clutch long FG by Federico at the half.
c. Our walk-on TE's can play
2. We played with a bunch of DBs who should have been redshirted and had few first-team reps in their careers
3. The running game looked good
4. We were putrid on defense, especially the pass rush (especially considering they rarely if ever had a TE or FB blocking) and horrific with clock management and penalties and turnovers and STILL almost won against a very good QB, coached up by a brilliant offensive mind, who happened to be en fuego
5. Kyle is not Knute Rockne, but this loss was not on him. it was on the moral character of the arrested players, it was on Chris Muller's unthinkably bad penalties, And Davon Jacobs's hands and the pass rush. This was not on Kyle.
6. Did you see the Auburn, Arkansas, Louisville and Mizzou scores? And Maryland's?
7. And when you look at how good UNC's ofense looks this year, remember what we did to them in the bowl last year when our DBs were not in jail?
SO, can we ease off Kyle tonight. Maybe after a few more games we can revisit the issue. but It is WAY,way too soon.
