Many still available, per twitter.

Student section might be very bare. Ugh.

No one buys the student tickets, only the die hard students do I bet...they just wait last minute to get the free tickets...the first game will be packed because of freshmen, the others I doubt

Didn't they just get back on campus? They will be there...late and leave early but at some point their section will be full.

If we're talking about buying student tickets probably 5-10% of the student attendance buys each year.

Not talking about the tickets that were sold.

The lottery was held last night for free tickets, and many still remain.

This per twitter.

Don't forget to tell everyone you know, that tickets are FREE for kids age 12 and under. Contact the ticket office at 866-445-4678.

Buy your tix as a student? What students had disposable money for that? Any extra cash I had when i was a student at RU was used on beer and food.

I find this interesting, but can't say I totally blame them given that free tickets are an option. It appears that Northwestern and Maryland are the only other B1G schools that don't require students to purchase tickets. Would Rutgers consider charging ALL students for season tickets rather than only those who wish to secure them in advance?

For reference, this is the data I found for this season around the conference (couldn't find an exact price for MSU, but I believe it's similar to Nebraska/Wisconsin/Iowa):

Ohio State: $252
Penn State: $218
Michigan: $215
Iowa: $175
Nebraska: $166
Wisconsin: $164
Minnesota: $99
Purdue: $99
Indiana: $70
Illinois: $60

When I was a freshman in 2008, the buzz of the 2006 season was still in the air and football was huge on campus. The buzz died down significantly when I was a senior for the 2011 season but football was still popular. I have a feeling it's not nearly as big as it used to be because we haven't had a big season in so long and also students don't tailgate anymore because of the strict alcohol policy.

I can't speak for the popularity of football in campus now, maybe a current student can?

Is that really surprising? Fan base beat down after the Flood regime and the new crew gets embarrassed game one. Then a FCS team rolls in.

Just wait until we go 3 more seasons bowl-less like many are wasting no time predicting. Minus the enemies' fans, stadium will be full of tumbleweeds.

If the 65,000 Rutgers students can't use all 10,000 seats, bring the price of the Family Section season tickets back down to $99 and maybe we could actually ADVERTISE somewhere. I have seen nothing in the APP or on News12 and heard one ad on Thunder 106 back in the Spring.

Then that's bad. 48-13 didn't help. Neither does the fact that they don't want to trek over from College Ave tailgating that is quickly becoming the normal spot for students, but I digress.

I swear almost all of your posts are essentially asking Rutgers to give away something for a discount or make it free.

Both my kids (juniors at RU) bought season tickets. Think they were $100 each or so. Apparently lots are unsold.

Students stopped going last season, midway thru the year due to the blow outs..AND the over the top police enforcement. Rutgers hires multiple different jurisdictions to fill security and many different agencies are not following the same enforcement...its a problem that grew under Hermann AND WAS NEVER FIXED..Kids will not go to lots now because cops were over the top arresting students who were not drinking in the lots but "appeared to have drank elsewhere" prior to comming to the game.. (under 21). So now kids pre game elsewhere..and dont come to the games at all..Hobbs and Sarah need to fix this ASAP.

I thought this problem had been dealt with but apparently not. Nevertheless, I am embarrassed for the student body that their attendance at games has actually declined since we joined the B1G, while for the rest of the fan base, it has grown significantly. More students attended the games during our year in the AAC than did, on average, during our two seasons in the B1G. And the turnout against Nebraska and Wisconsin, about 1500 for each, was pathetic. We used to have larger student crowds to see RU play Colgate and Lehigh.

Yea, the police enforcement is way over the top with students, in my opinion. I thought maybe this new student tailgate area was going to not be so oppressive--we will see.

Kids will never go to a student designated area IF they police are then going to hawk them even easier. .When the enforcement got over the top several years ago, people just tweeted Tim P,or hit him on facebook, and he responded and fixed the problem quickly, sometimes in person...Hobbs and Sarha dont appear to be easy to communicate issues with on social media...Greeny does though, and kudos to him for that....

It's Howard for crying out loud. When I was a student (2007-2011) these type of games never sold out the first night of the free lottery.

Maybe 1% of RU students are going to be sitting by their computer at midnight to claim a Howard ticket.

Stands will be packed for the 2nd Quarter and then the kids will start filtering out to go drink after the blowout ensues and it becomes hotter.

I can't speak for Northwestern, but Maryland does require student to buy tickets...sort of. Unlike at other B1G schools where students can elect to purchase season ticket packages, ALL Maryland students are charged a fee that's included with tuition payments, money that's in turn distributed from the University to ICA. Unless things have changed since the switch from the ACC, even if you never attend a game, you pay.

What "problem"? It's the HOWARD game for crying out loud. Also, where does it say - anywhere - that "student attendance at games has declined since we joined the B1G"? I would say, as having attended every home game since we joined, that is NOT the case.

Wisconsin? It's was a 35-degree day with torrential downpours all day long! Nebraska? We had been beat down 3 straight weeks. WTF did you expect?

Don't we do something similar?

We have had extremely good student turnout....IMO the last couple of year

Win the next two games and the students will be jamming in there for Iowa, Michigan, and Penn State and be oversold

C'mon guys....IT's HOWARD!!!

I was aware of that, but I assumed that student fee covers a variety of things, not just football tickets. For example, PSU charges a student activity fee, but it is separate from tickets to the primary sports. If that's the case at MD and RU, it stands to reason those schools could separate football tickets from that fee and add a new revenue stream.

Just a few years back, RU students filled the student section for the games against the 1-AA opponents when they were first home game of the year. And 1500 students for the first visits ever by Wisconsin and Nebraska is pathetic no matter what the weather or the record. More students showed up for games against Lehigh and Lafayette, our "Middle Three" rivals back in the 1960s when RU had a much smaller student body and we had much lower, if any, real goals for the program. We do not have a Big Ten student body, at least not yet. I think Ash will be very disappointed.

We averaged about 8,500-9,000 students/game other than Wisconsin 2 years ago. The 1st game of the year, each of the last 2 years, had surprisingly large student turnouts for FCS games, to be honest. The game Saturday will likely be a part of frosh orientation, as it is every year, which means the student section will be fairly strong. Oh, by the way, we stunk last year, and even Wisconsin used to have near-empty student sections back when they stunk, as do Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois, when they're having down seasons. Yes, the crowds for Wiscy - once again, in 35-degree TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS all day long - and Wisconsin, sucked, but let's not throw shit out there just to attempt to make a point. Our average student attendance year-in and year-out, the last decade, BLOWS AWAY anything that I've seen, since the mid-70's, and I've been to just about every home game since then. I mean most years in the 70's, 80's, 90's, and 1st half of the 00's, it wasn't even remotely close to what it is now (other than a HC game, a Pitt-on-ESPN game, but that was it...). Nobody really cares what you drew for games in the 60's, btw, but it was nowhere close to the #'s we draw now, sorry. Anyway, getting on the students for crap like brutal weather, or a shitty team, is kinda unfair. Unfortunately I have a feeling your not going to be too happy this, or next season, and you can thank Kyle Fudd for that.

PS - Wisconsin HC student section, IIRC, was SOLD OUT in several hours.
