Hey all,

I'll be tailgating with some fellow Jayhawks tomorrow. I live here in Jersey and have been looking forward to this game since it was scheduled.

Anyway. What are the rules on barbeque? Can I use charcoal? Are there different rules for the lots around the stadium, than in the RAC lots? I'll probably be at RAC and take the shuttle to the game.

Welcome to our board, and glad you are joining us. You can use charcoal. A lot of questions can be answered here. It does not appear we will have a big turnout, and you may want to try the Greek Church Lot of Johnson Park. Info in this link:

Tailgate Policies
Parking lots are open five (5) hours prior to kickoff and close at dusk, except for the Saint George Greek Church Lot which opens six (6) hours prior to kickoff.
• Parking spaces are limited and tailgating must be confined to a small area around your vehicle, except the Saint George Greek Church Lot which has a designated tailgating area and does not allow tailgating in the parking lot. Traffic aisles and parking spaces can not be blocked at any time.
• Spectators wishing to park together must enter lots at the same time, displaying matching passes.
• All stadium parking lots will be reserved for those attending the game. If you do not attend the game, you will be asked to leave the stadium parking lots at kickoff time.
• University regulations and state statutes on drug and alcohol consumption will be strictly enforced.
• Kegs, beer balls, tents and canopies are prohibited. These items are not permitted in the parking lots/adjacent areas at any time.
• For safety purposes, charcoal should be discarded in specially marked yellow barrels located throughout the parking lots.
• Open flames other than approved grills are not permitted. Camp fires/ bonfires are prohibited.
• Please recycle and put all trash in proper receptacles.
• RUPD and Rutgers Athletics remind everyone to please drink responsibly. Don't drink and drive.

Good link, but while those are the official rules, in reality it doesn't work that way.
  • Parking attendants are there 5 hours before kickoff, but you can get to the lot and park any time. If you are there when the attendants arrive, they will come around and ask for your parking pass stubb.
  • You can set up a tent/canopy in front/behind your car. Just be prepared to move it to fill all spots and if RUPD needs to get by on their 4 wheelers.
  • While tailgating, drink alcohol in cups/glasses. If walking to the stadium you can take road beers and drink them in bottles as you walk, no one says anything.

Okay, just saw this. A few questions: do you have a parking pass for the game? If not, you will need to go to one of the game-day lots. How early are you coming? The game-day lots will fill up fast if that's the way you're going.

Here's a schematic of the parking lots:

Gas and charcoal grills are fine. If you have charcoal, make sure the coals are out before leaving.

I'll emphasize that, since this is Homecoming, you need to get there early if you're going to a game-day lot.

Hit us up with more questions if you have them.

...Gas and charcoal grills are fine. If you have charcoal, make sure the coals are out before leaving...

Arent there yellow steel drums used for the hot coals?

If you want you could pick up a close lot (yellow, blue or purple, black if you don't mind a 10 min walk) parking pass, because, well.. um. No one is coming.

I'm meeting a group who will be in an RV. Since they are Kansas fans as well, they don have access to the stadium lots. That's why I planned on parking at RAC.
