Tampa Bay Lightning....

But seriously...stfu. We're all rutgers fans here. Why try to hate on any of us

spent the evening at the Stagehouse and ran into a couple of board members here enjoying the night....at 1-0.....the air came out of the place and at 2-0, the place still had drinks served, but it was less than enthusiastic......the game 5 stat of 85% winners of game 5, held up again here....it's tough to beat a quality team in back to back games....

I started a thread expressing my feelings about the Eastern Conference Finals. If I wanted to troll, I would've said Hey Rangers fans, eat a dick!

Gotta second the op. Thank you Bolts. You've been thunderstruck, Rags.

Yes. And attempting to get a rise out of fans of the other team on this board as well. Which is trolling. I, for one, would love to see a local team, almost any team, win a championship in SOMETHING within the next few years.

In all fairness...we are on a Rutgers board. Rutgers is a NEW JERSEY school. NEW JERSEY has a hockey team, and their biggest rival just loss in Game 7 to miss out on a Cup chance. There's gonna be some people happy tonight.

Hate calling out fans...which the OP did not do. So not trolling, in my opinion.

So you assume I'm a Devils fan and I'm getting joy out of your loss??? Well you're wrong, I'm actually a Devils fan and yeah, I can thank the Bolts if I want, lol. See what I did there.

In my original post I kept it clean and simply congratulated the Lightining, I wonder if you guys would've been as generous if the shoe was on the other foot.

The Rangers had a great season but I'm glad it ended the way it did....GO DEVILS!!!

Sorry, but your OP was trolling, just embrace it. I have no horse in this race, but it's obvious you were trying to egg on the Rangers fans, who are obviously at a low point right now. That's behaving like a douche.

I watched this series with baited breath, hoping for a Tampa Bay win and I'm a douche because I make a post saying thank you Tampa after they win. Maybe Rangers fans are douches for attacking hockey fans who 'had the nerve' to route against them.

Uhhh, yes, you acted like a douche by thanking Tampa for winning. If you simply congratulated them on winning, that would be mostly fine, but thanking them means they did you a favor of some type, which could only mean you wanted the Rangers to lose, ergo, you were inciting the Ranger faithful, who obviously are going to be down after a tough loss. That's trolling any way you slice it. Also, it's "bated" and "root."

Seriously that was hilarious, maybe you should have waited until you were sober until you posted that.

Non-sequitir much? I have no idea what you're talking about and usually the person who can't spell shouldn't be talking about someone else drinking too much. But go ahead and keep on digging.

When all else fails bitch about spelling or grammar, lol. Sorry I had a drink or two at your teams expense. Like it or not, I didn't go to a NY board and express my fellings. This is a NEW JERSEY board. Mods, feel free to ban me if I hurt the Rangers fans feelings.

What I don't get is how neither team did well on their home ice. The score was 17-10 in favor of the Rangers in Tampa, and 11-4 in favor of the Lightning in NY. Bishop had a 96.5% save pct at MSG, but just 80.8% at home. Lundqvist was 90.8% on the road and 87.0% at home. Not a hockey fan, but that just seems odd.

If you live in NJ and are a Rangers fan, you're no better than JG "repping" NJ but in the end offering his loyalties out of state.

No wonder we can't recruit this state, we have alums and members of this board who still don't understand the dynamics of NJ. Listen carefully - bergen county and north jersey is inextricably linked to nyc. For work. For play. For sports team allegiance. Similarly, that's how things are for Philadelphia. Pretty simple concept. You aren't gonna change it and you certainly aren't gonna make any friends by insisting that we all root for a team with no luster who play in newark. Besides, how many total miles separate these teams anyway? 10? The nets and isles show all these geographies are essentially interchangeable. So calm down with the Tennessee references. We aren't rooting for the preds, after all.

The Devils were not around when a bunch of little kids picked there favorite hockey team in NJ. Some picked the Rangers some were smarter I guess and picked a team that won 4 cups. I was a little kid in the late 80's when the Devils were here and trying to make it happen. I fell in love with the team that one year when we made the playoffs on the last night of the regular season and then went deep into the playoffs losing to the Bruins. The Devils are Jerseys team but for the 45-50 and up its not the Devils but the Icelanders and Rangers IMO Thank you Bolts I can't stand the Rangers.

If you are a rangers fan and saw the thread title why even click on it and then cry about what's written?

Because "Looked awesome. Balanced team with the ability to turn it on at any moment. Can they knock off whoever comes from out west" would actually bring about some good discussion?

I see David Puddy got himself a Rivals account. Slow day at the garage I guess.

There already was an existing thread started by a Devils fan. No reason for this other than to solicit responses. Congrats. It worked.

You're a Rangers fan, your team just lost game 7, you go to a message board and see a thread titled Tampa Bay Lightning, (the team the Rangers just lost to), what do you do...A. Go to bed or B. Click on it? Hmmmm

You make a good argument for why Rutgers shouldn't have any claim to New Jersey. South Jersey will always be linked to TTFP and North Jersey to Notre Dame And other traditional powers. We are the team that plays in no place special and lacks luster. Either border geography matters or it doesn't. The logic you apply suggests it doesn't. Therefore, in your opinion, why should anyone but am alum support Rutgers? Based on what you have said so far they shouldn't.

The same logic kids use to not choose Rutgers. You can use any justification to root for another team, but just because it happens doesn't mean it should happen. And trust me, I don't need non loyal friends.

That's a pretty stupid comparison. When I was young.....so very, very long ago....there was only ONE hockey team in the area....The New York Rangers. That sorta made it easy to pick a team. So you think because the NHL relocated a team to this area I was gonna drop my team and root for the New Kids....as long as they didn't move back out of the area. Nah, I've never quit a team....although the Knicks are pushing it.

this..and I'm a Devils fan.

The majority of the Devils fan base is very young. The older folks are Rangers/Isles/Flyers fans it seems.

Nothing wrong with that.

51 years old here an ex rangers fan who dropped them when my home state got a team. My friends and I all became Devil fans because of state pride. We are all in our 50's now and do not like the rangers!! So the Devils have plenty of older fans and younger fans like my 8 year old son. And YES I am happy the rangers lost and it happened on a Friday at the garden (another failure at the worlds most famous arena ....cough, cough) so ranger fans have a long weekend to think about it instead of beng distracted by work!

Awesome! My 62 year old father also dropped the Rangers, while his 2 brothers (and father at the time) were/are still die hard Rangers fans.

The point about understanding recruiting dynamics and the big cities that we pledge allegiance to is that it can be used to our advantage. "New jersey" transcends new jersey, if that makes sense. NJ is a top companion and a feeder to two great cities. Go to rutgers and get a great education and have access to.both those great cities. What's wrong with that pitch????

So if JG justified rejecting Rutgers by saying he rooted for TN as a kid, you'd be okay with that rationale?

So, if the Devils move back to Colorado you'll go back to being a Rangers fan ?
See, people aren't all the same. I'm the kind of guy that doesn't dump the team he's been rooting for since he was first old enough to root for a team. At least not just because some new franchise moved into the neighborhood. I guess there are those who would suddenly quit the Devils and become Islanders fans if they packed up and moved to an arena in New Brunswick or Trenton. Or if the Tampa Bay Rays moved to New Jersey, I'm sure some Yankees and Mets fans would drop their team and root for the "Jersey team".
I'm not like that. I've never dumped one of my teams. But then, that's just me.

If his father was from Tennessee of went there, sure. My dad and his dad were Rangers fans and lived in NY and I only moved to NJ when I was 8.

RU is the closest P5 school for anyone who lives in the state of NJ...with hockey I live closer to MSG and maybe even Barclays.

You also get a degree from RU- all of us alumni are Scarlet Knights. No matter how hard you try, none of us will ever be a Ranger or a Devil....

It's just a silly comparison.
