Temple & Memphis Out of Big 12 Expansion

UCF, and or South Florida it will be. Huge TV markets, lots of HS football talent to recruit, growing cities, beautiful destinations for those big wallet alums stuck in the mid and south west.

win/win/win/win

This is truly shocking news. Those seem like great candidates for any serious conference.

There's a lease 1 poster who bitched me out for shooting him down about Memphis. His mantra was "There's no way in hell that the Big12 will shoot down FEDEX money...they're a LOCK..." and he just kept going on and on and on about it. Well...

....I think he liked Temple's odds too, so, there's that.

No way could I ever believe that they considered Temple a viable option.
Please.

Temple has potential but right now also has too many questions and not enough answers. I'm actually a bit surprised Memphis was cut now, though I didn't see them being in a 2-team expansion.

Big XII goes UPS.

still waiting for that 'lock' on the ACC invite that you and your buddy were soooooooo sure about? See, not everyone is right, even when they think they have the in so cut him some slack :)

Wrong guy. I never once claimed Yuke-On was a "lock" for any P5 conference. Quite the opposite actually. The only conference move I EVER claimed to have info on - as did others- was RU to the B1G about 2-3 years prior (about the time Nebraska accepted their invite). Sorry buddy.

Colorado State not doing much to primp for their date with the B12. Getting slaughtered by Colorado who's basically saying, "CSU doesn't even deserve the scraps conference we left behind."

I thought Memphis had a good shot because of FedEX money .
but felt Temple didn't have a chance and couldn't see UConn involved.
I had it 1)Houston, 2)BYU , 3) Cincy and 4) Memphis , with a good shot of buying their way past Cincy.
Figured if either Houston or BYU had enough votes against them, Memphis had a chance to pass Cincy because of FedEx.

I posted my opinion of Memphis buying their way in and there were posters that disagreed.
To me it's just speculating and there will be opposing opinions when you're speculating about Conference expansion.
Looks like I was wrong, but the fat lady hasn't sung yet [winking]

My leaders are nothing exciting or nee...Houston, BYU, Cincinnati and either USF or CFU. I think one also has yo.think about what the other sports besides football will add to.the conference. Basketball is a big item and quite frankly I don't see USF and CFU as BB potential BB players and as viable as Houston, Cincy and BYU. These school have decent BB history. Geographic and travel wise it would appear Houston and Cincy would be the better choices.

UConn didn't help their chances for football-crazy Big 12 conference admission with less than 30K fans and a last second field goal win over Maine.

haha Temple in the Big 12 was a non starter. Can you imagine Texas and Oklahoma approving to share revenues with them. Unlike with Rutgers in the Big 10, their potential is extremely limited

With the exception of UCONN, how could anyone seriously consider Temple or Memphis? Kind of like a conference picking Syracuse and BC,
Oh wait.............:scream:

Temple's location gives them potential, but they have issues that make our issues look like 2 friends disagreeing over which ice cream flavor is better (and that was before last night).

I also thought Memphis had a good shot because of the FedEx promises prior to all the add'l schools throwing their hat in the ring.

Didn't then and don't now consider Temple and UConn serious candidates. Colorado State would make some sense. Still have to believe Houston, BYU, and a Fla school would be at the top. I'd like Cincy to get a break but with OSU I don't know if they want to go up against them for Ohio eyeballs.

I'm in the group that told people not to ignore Memphis. Maybe this expansion isn't a blind money grab...

Houston showing up against Oklahoma. Does a win in this battle help or hurt them in the war for B12 membership?

Going back and forth. 17-13 Oklahoma right now.

Mayfield is 8-8 passing. Okie keeping Ward contained so far. Get the feeling this'll be a 38-35 type game
