Thank God for basketball

Obviously football "drives the bus" but it's hard to make the "Rutgers doesn't belong in the Big Ten" argument as an overall athletic department.

I root for RU in all sports but in my opinion we are much more a basketball school than a football school. The football team must get to the point of at least winning half of their BIG Ten games. as our basketball team has done for three straight seasons. Pikiell has done a fabulous job as he inherited a team that was rated # 279 in the country and came our coach after Eddie left after a 7-25 season.

So how patient were you with hoops during the 13 years in a row between winning seasons? It’s great we hired Pike and he turned it around.
You obviously didn’t read. I’m talking about football I’m glad my patience wore off with basketball.

I knew what you meant. I’m frustrated with Football too. With Hoops I rarely came to games during those years. Now I go to as many as I can and watch as many as I can. Football is still my favorite but Pike and his players have had me all in the last 4 years or so.

Football has some hope the rebuild is happening with Gavin, Brown, and the defense. Some young talent on the OL too.

It's just frustrating seeing other programs turn it around faster in their rebuilds in the portal era where the Rutgers rebuild seems to be following the slower pre-portal era timelines

Rutgers is a basketball school... also a soccer wrestling baseball lax school before its a football school at this point. Crazy how much success Rutgers is having in many sports... just not the most popular college sport.... yet...

There are at least three football opponents on our schedule who we play every year where the opponent has an equal or better player at every single position, but punter. Every single position!! Football has a huge mountain to climb.

Soccer, WSoccer, Lacrosse, WLacrosse, Field Hockey, Basketball, Baseball, Crew, Wrestling … many teams have excelled in recent years. Also have a national champion (dance team).

Overall, Olympic sports in a much better place.

Is it really that slow? You can’t measure vs teams who have one good year and / or play in much weaker conferences.

Hoops is quicker and easier to fix yet winning seasons were few and far between before Pike. We play a balanced schedule in all other sports which also helps.

I am all in on Hoops but Football is the sport that generates the most fans. Basketball is a very distant 2nd and the rest might as be high school games. Don Bosco Football draws more fans than all of our other sports combined. So I don’t buy this comment at all. Without Football we are still in the AAC.

Unfortunately we'll have to wait another 4 years- untill Hobbs can find us our guy for football
