1. The assumption is the competition is too close to call.
2. Both QBs have identical years of eligibility left, so there is no saving one QB for the future.
3. Script each QB series in the opener, play the hot hand, and go from there until one QB emerges.
4. College football practice cannot simulate real game experience since the QBs are protected. Which is why a better decision is made in real games.
5. "Can't have QBs looking over their shoulder". Why not? Happens at every other position on the field. If Stephenson gets beat over the top, you can bet that Hester will be in the next series. Or if a RB fumbles, he probably won't get another carry that game.
6. "QBs have to pay through their mistakes". Why? To the detriment of the team? Gary Nova's 6 INT Kent St. game did not prevent the same type of game 2 years later against Penn St.
7. "2 QBs is not better than 1". RU tried this before when freshman Nova shared the position with Dodd. Actually the QB stats that year in total were better than the following year when soph Nova had the position to himself.
8. Better for recruiting. Playing time is always the key incentive. Kids want to have a fair shot.
