Although the 2006 defense overall was certainly better, it was the 2005 defense, who combined the best of the old (Ryan Neill and Val Barnaby) with the best of the new (Jamaal Westerman and Rameel Meekins) that was probably our best pass rush ever at Rutgers. Just counting up the total sacks, we combined as a team with 46 total sacks that year which is an outstanding 3.8 sacks per game.
Can we break that this year? Aaron Lewis led the nation in QB hits last year, and he finally gets to play with Mo Toure, who previously was top 10 in the league in sacks per game. And we got Bailey, plus Fletcher who was coming into his own last year, and Hamilton and Ahanotu. 46 is a huge number and it will be tough, especially because this schedule is so much better than in 2005. Do you think we can break it?
