Amazing the bball and football games happened back to back...the progress, the potential, and the improved talent on one end....the lack of on the other. The Development of big men in b-ball - Johnson, Eugene O, and Shaq D - the regression and/or untalented players of the “big men” in football on the lines. If Hobbs can’t tell which sport is and will never be headed in the right direction, I give up.

My only hope is that Hobbs is not stupid. He was there in year 3 of Eddie Jordan and fired him. He sees what’s difference there is in the program now vs. then. Expecting thing to change with this deficient staff is like expecting Eddie to have tured things in a year 4.

Hope Greg Brown has a spare $2.5 mil lying around

unfortunately its more akin to eating Fred Hill Jr's contract...and Hobbs should be aware, Pernetti's failure to fire Hill properly at the end of the season March set in motion a chain of events that if handled properly at the time, Pernetti could very well still be the AD here right now and RU could avoided several scandals

Here's a suggestion....

Let"s Keep football talk and Ash talk on the Football Board.

Let's have Basketball talk and Pikiell talk on this basketball board.

Compare and contrast is a fair topic for a message board.

But it is unfair to Pickiell to have a thread comparing him to a bad coach. Go to the football board and you are comparing a bad football coach to a good basketball coach. Pike doesn't deserve to be put in the same sentence with Ash.

As Jerry Carino tweeted yesterday the big difference between Ash and Pike:

- Pike embraced the holdovers
- Pike surrounded himself with excellent coaches

Ash - not so much...:)

I don’t buy point 1. Though you’d like to see it differently, plenty of successful coaches have come in and cleaned house by getting their guys in.

It’s more simple than that. Pike has done it before and had a proven track record. He knew what he was doing building a program. Ash has never done it, and when he had to, failed. He’s just not a good hc.

Pike and Coach Brecht are very similar to me. You want to see how to build a program, make their profiles the standard.

I don't even know why people do this comparison.

MBB- 13 scholarships- easier to turn around and not as big a difference talent and strength between underclassman 18-19 and upperclassman 20-22, when 50-75% of the roster, come to ability with basketball.

Football- 85 scholarships- harder to turn around and much bigger difference when 50-75% of your players are 18-20 years old playing against 21-23 years old football bodies.

Yes, the coaching staff in basketball WAAAY better than football, but it's hard to compete for 2 straight years including walk-ons, 70-75 out of 105 players were true/redshirt freshman and sophomore, they had more juniors and seniors in 2017 than 2018.

Experience is the key difference. Pike spent years at SB, and he turned around a struggling program. Ash had no HC experience, and he actually was co-DC at tOSU (not full DC). Flood had no HC experience and very little coordinator experience (co-OC in 2010 in a down year). I compare them with FHJ who had no HC experience before taking over for Waters.

It is usually the safer bet to take a guy with a track record of success at a lower level. It doesn’t always work out, but it’s probably your best chance.
