The Dylan and Ace Effect.

lol that would be a dumb reason. Ace and Dylan will take 1 semester of classes. It’s not like these guys will be around for most of an incoming freshman’s time here

Im skeptical incoming freshman would have any clue about those 2.

That said it should be an amazing year on the hardwood that could have an effect on years beyond.

You have to remember how important the 24-25 season is to the overall future success of getting to that next level as a perennial top 25 program. If Pike can deliver a sweet 16, Elite 8 or better Ace a top 3/5 pick and Dylan a lottery pick in 2025 draft, we will get more interest from future 4⭐ and 5⭐ recruits for years to come with the ripple effect that he can deliver on his word and it won't become a 1 year fluke *cough 2006*

Well, I would think that getting Ace and Dylan to be top picks is more important to recruiting the one and done kids than a sweet 16 . Right ?

I think it goes hand in hand, I've heard Ace multiple times in interviews want to bring a "Natty" to Rutgers, some kids just want a quick path to the league, others want to pull a Carmelo Anthony. Each kid will be different. I would think we would want to recruit the one and dones like Ace, but I also think Ace wants to help one of his best friends JMike for future success of playing with very talented teams after Ace leaves, too.

Also football team making a bowl and on the up can't hurt. Big time college athletics is a draw if the teams are good
Was gonna post the same comment. It also helps that schools like UCLA and Washington will be playing at RU, and the whole B1G expansion from the Pac12. How many of us have already booked trips to LA, 9 months in advance, to see RU play at USC? That kind of enthusiasm has to impact students as well.

Rutgers isn't "getting Ace and Dylan to be top picks".

They are top picks with or without Rutgers.
They could sit out the year and have zero impact on their draft prospects.

It’s the Common App effect. This happens to some extent when any school starts accepting the Common App. The issue for those in enrollment management are around not knowing how many of this new apps, which will be primarily from out of state, are seriously interested in RU. In a time where most students are applying to 12-15 schools (or more), it’s hard to manage enrollment. Look for long waitlists at RU this year.

Since the application deadline was a couple weeks before Dylan committed, it's pretty obvious there wasn't a Dylan and Ace effect 🙂. Having said that, significant success in athletics, particularly football and men's basketball, can absolutely have a major impact on admissions, donations and the reputation of the school. A couple of examples that immediately come to mind are Villanova for men's basketball and Miami for football. Just being in the B1G is a positive factor in many ways. I do think any serious bump from athletics will require something more than NCAA appearances and minor bowl games (or just landing recruits), but I also think we saw a noticeable bump after the 2006 football season. I think it can happen again, hopefully in a much bigger way, with continued progress in the football and basketball programs. Go RU!!

You have to be really obtuse to not understand the correlation with good athletics programs and applications.

Out of state NJ kids ain't flocking to Alabama, Georgia and Clemson for the prestige of the degree.

Agree . And considering we historically have had crappy athletics , getting good is only going to help things.

I'm sure we all had a feeling application would increase for this coming freshman class, but this is tremendous!
There are no doubt several reasons for the uptick -- cost/value proposition of a Rutgers college degree ; Big Ten membership ; athletic program higher profile ; Rutgers honors program; big improvement in USNWR ranking; New Brunswick becoming innovation incubator and Bell Labs move, etc. But no doubt excitement over future Rutgers atheletic programs does increase applications. I live in the Boston area and was living in Natick, Ma. ( Doug Flutie's home then and now) when he was doing his heroics at BC. And yes, BC applications sky rocketed as a result and from that point on BC became a very difficult to school to get accepted at. Success in college sports can increase desirability of a college.

As costs are increasing, parents are forcing their kids to stay in state ?

Why Incur $55k out of state when you can only incur $35k in state ?

lol happening to. A lot of P5 universities, nothing to do with Ace and Dylan. But great for RU. The schools ranking, big ten status all helping

Those are all contributing factors from an overall awareness perspective but Rutgers now accepting the common app is the primary driver.

it's because rutgers now accepts the common app iirc.
I was about to say a 50% bump in applications doesn't seem realistic - this reasoning does. And yeah choosing a school as just a scholar based on a good bball recruiting class alone is outlandish.

Students partially choose a school for the college experience outside of academics.

Ace and Dylan are not the reason for the application increase. USNews and B10 are more likely factors.
