THE OFFICIAL RUTGERS-MICHIGAN STATE PREDICTION THREAD

This might be a rare opportunity Rutgers has a realistic chance of defeating Michigan State on the road because two star players are injured. It will require consistent scoring which has been lacking all season against top tier league opponents.

Michigan State 63 Rutgers 58

Gotta D up again and keep scoring in the 60s. Maybe RU gets a buzzer-beater on this one:
RU 69, MSU 68.

Whats the line? RU gets their first big road win here 69-61 RU in control the whole way

MSU does not give up alot of points at home

Ohio State 44
Minnesota 55
Indiana 79...a wtf game
Maryland 55
Purdue 59
Nwstern 55
Iowa 68

How is it that many points? Seems absurd
Yeah, it's like Bac said the stats show what we are most likely to score, which I agree with. Hopefully we dont give up 78 like kenpom spit out. 78-59

The line seems high especially in light of the MSU injury situation.

Their last two home games they beat Minnesota by 24 and Ohio State by 18. Line makes sense.

beat Ohio State by 18
beat Minnesota by 24
beat at Iowa by 15
beat Maryland by 14
beat at Penn State by 15
beat Northwestern by 26
beat Iowa by 22
beat at Rutgers by 11

two shocking losses to Illinois and Indiana but MSU is most certainly capable of blowing RU out, look at the list of teams that they have blown out

On January 30th Indiana came to RU and we beat them, 66-58. Three days later Indy goes into MSU and beats MSU 79-75. Anything can happen in this conference. Sure, we could lay an egg, but we could also defend and make just enough shots to win.

Without Ward and Langford though?

Gut feeling we win this by 5

(Maybe because I was watching an hour of that linked Inside Rutgers basketball show with Coach Waters, Webb, Douby, etc.)

Seems like those guys had a mindset to win, and I think our guys have developed the same dogged determination mindset to play great defense and never back down.

Would love for your prediction to be right Brain but I think we’d need Douby and Roy Hinson or others just to have a chance to keep it close. We’re coming off one of the worst beats in our history and going on the road against a very good team and even with their injuries it’s just gonna be a very tough game. I do think we cover but lose this one like 77-61 but I hope I’m wrong.

Odds makers know Michigan Stats is a outstanding defensive team and Rutgers has great difficulty scoring against top tier league opponents on the road. Its still surprising with two star players inured that the odds favor Michigan State by such a wide margin.

Even with the injuries MSU has a gigantic edge in outside (and inside) shooting... Winston and McQuaid are both around 45% from three. And Tillman is near 70% inside.

One thing to watch: They don't force many turnovers. We can't give away possessions.

Langford and Ward being injured levels the playing field slightly. MSU now will have a 6-man rotation. Of course, those six are terrific, but something tells me they will miss Ward a lot, as he is what anchors their offense. But I still can’t see us winning this game on the road.

There's only one path to victory and must include ALL of these factors.

A) Take the 1st available driving lane AND hope the refs call them for some fouls

B) Take shots in transition before the defense is set...if they set up defensively, RU is going to struggle to score.

C) Go with a smaller, quicker lineup...we need 24 to 25 minutes of 3 guards on the floor to shoot 3s with Eugene as the 4th threat from 3. We need to take 25 to 30 3's in hopes of hitting 8 to 10 of them. I would go with heavy doses of McConnell, Mathis, Harper together mixed with Baker and maybe play Eugene at the 5....they're without huge size with Ward out, spread, drive and kick out for treys

D) Play this game free and loose....that may mean looking bad when you take this many 3s, but you have to make Izzo uncomfortable and give them something else to look at. As crazy as it sounds, Peter Kiss played fast and loose BUT he took 3s that were "bad shots"....a couple of them went in and it throws MSU off.

MSU 65, RU 57.....if RU makes some 3s early and hit some of their 1 and 1 FTs, we have a ball game very late in East Lansing.
