Attended the Nebraska game last night...what an absolutely pathetic turnout...where are the students? This school and it’s students have got to start acting and looking like a B1G program...embarrassing

This team has its flaws, but they are competitive. They deserve better support. The absence of a coach to recruit a few legitimate 3 point threats in the last few coaching regimes is killing a once excellent home court advantage...3s energize the crowd and are the great equalizer...just like football brought in two QBs, I expect another schollie to be spent on another 3 point threat to pair with Mathis...show Souf and Bullock the door

I can’t believe there aren’t shooters out there, coaches gotta try harder to fill this need

...does anyone remember Jerome Coleman? waters found him on short notice, only played AAU in HS, and we nearly got in the NCAA tourney with a 15-1 reg season home record, paired with Ricky Shields we were an upstart team

Too many losing seasons in a row. Good college buddy of mine does not follow team anymore. Had no clue we beat Iowa.

Yes it was kinda dead but as previous posters have stated it's hard to support losing for an extended period of time.

It will be alive against Purdue pending a team that comes out ready to play.

We are in year 2 after a pathetic stretch of Jordan TOTAL sould sucking ineptitude

The RAC is rocking many nights and the opposition views it as a tough place to play
TV announcers applaud what goes on in the RAC

The OP has 50 posts & seems to favor negativity in post #50(50 post & 43 likes...uh huh)

We have many rocking RACs to look forward to in the Coach P era

Last night was probably the lamest atmosphere all year for our B1G schedule. If that was your only game this year than I can understand. But most nights it is rocking, this year more than in a long time.

Crowd was small but was enough to get loud if anybody cared. Only people who have any energy are in the 100's. Crowd got somewhat into it when we cut it to 52-50, and then inexplicably quieted (and sat) down when Roby was taking his foul shots...it was like tennis or golf...shhhh, don't disturb him...

the RAC is not really a tough place to play. RU beat SHU in a jacked atmosphere rivalry game but any time a team loses back to back games at home against trash like Stony and Hartford then how much of a home court advantage do they really have. A great home court advantage would show the home team getting out to hot starts or being able to complete comebacks at the end. The only times we did this were against Iowa and SHU. Losing competitively to FSU and MSU is meaningless when they were losses. The student turnout the last two games has been pretty sketchy and of course the turnout from the rest of the RU community is atrocious

crowd seemed pretty involved from the TV viewpoint . I did notice more open seats than usual in the mid-court area and the student section did look empty (but thats always nearly impossible to see on TV). But the crowd did seems to get into a few times.

In particular I did notice one older guy who was often in the camera shot around mid court, standing up and waving his arms in a circle motion trying to get everyone into it. I loved that.

Weekday games are tough to get there. No excuse for the students. I speak to a few students regularly through mentorship programs and they basically are uninterested in basketball and football for that matter. Reputation of the teams is essentially the beat downs and having the "we stink" attitude about the sports teams. Won't change the masses attitudes (even those mildly into sports) until we start winning CONFERENCE HOME GAMES with any sort of regularity.

Try watching a PSU basketball home game. That my friend is a mausoleum. Caught a little bit of their home against against Minn [which they almost won] and there was nobody in that arena. I’m talking 2k if you’re lucky. Anyways, back to RU. Crowd versus Neb did look dead but still at least 4K but RU never took control of the game and when RU was ready to tie or take lead crowd was ready to roar but a foul, turnover or missed shot just killed the momentum. We had great effort but we need consistent “Ws” to bring back lost, fair weather or early week cold weather game fans. We’re competing now. We just need to win.

GO RU

When your goal is to simply not finish last in the conference, support is going to be tepid.

it's really disappointing that so called "loyal" RU fans always feel the need to point out our negatives--reasonable or not --it gets very tiring and it doesn't make you seem anymore "expert"--it's so easy

When I was a student it was "cool" to follow Rutgers football and to a lesser extent basketball because they were good. It's just not cool for students to follow the sports teams because there definitely is a "we stink" attitude like previously said.

They have to make it cool again. They have to start winning and bringing some hype to the program. Purdue football did it this year. We can do it too. I think it will be done.

I hope those that complain are actually going to the games themselves....

I go to the games, and I don't blame those who do not....... Over the years it has been easy to see that we must win first before we get consistent high
attendance....

we could be going through a losing year and still have a very good attendance for a highly ranked opponent, or a bitter rival ( not so much anymore)

as to the Nebraska game, the crowd was not very good, but at the critical juncture in the game, they got loud enough to rattle some teams..... but
not Nebraska, that night.

I think there will be a huge Purdue contingent there
That's interesting because I never thought they had a huge alumni-fan base in this area. I thought the sell out was mainly due to them being ranked so high, it's on a Saturday at 4 p.m. and there really aren't many Saturday B1G home games this year. I'll be interested to see if they have a big turnout- I hope they don't, but they are having a great year so it wouldn't surprise me either.

It wasn't a large crowd, but the people who were there tried to get going, but every time the crowd wanted to get into it, the team would miss a crucial shot or turn the ball over. Frustrating game.

What you are saying could be part of the rebuild step by step ,year by year .Of course, some might say one step forward and two steps backward which has been the case for too many Rutgers teams. Its a tedious process that fans must endure.

I agree with your assessment that the sellout crowd is based on time of game and ranking of Purdue more so than their fan base having a big turnout.

THIS is the biggest disappointment of this season.

When a 22 game home schedule I really was hoping that the upperclassmen were going to establish a THIS is R HOUSE and PROTECT R HOUSE mentality to this team ...which means coming out hard and fast every game and set a tone that when you come to our gym ...you are in a battle...and let NO ONE come in settled and easy into a game

The number of slow starts we have had at home this year is MIND BOGGLING and way too many teams have gotten off quick against us

In retrospect ...perhaps starting mike might have helped this attitude ...but one player doesn’t make it for a team

Think the time is a good reason for sellout. Have a friend who lives 90 miles away and Purdue game was good time. 7PM on Sunday not so good.

You want fans? Don't lose to Hartford or Stony Brook.
There is a strong correlation between talent level ,winning and attendance.Rutgers has remained a bottom tier basketball program through the Big East,AAC and now the B1G.The only thing that has changed is the names of players and coaches.

Same old same old, you gotta win in this market. Think back to 2006 and the RU football buzz, heck the Empire St Building was lit up in scarlet for us. There are way too many other sports and entertainment options in this area to take advantage of over watching loss after loss.

Win and they will come.

The RAC is a tough place to play. 100%. Not always tough to play in front of Rutgers fans or against Rutgers teams.

Yep we're not living in Pennsyltucky aka Centre County, PA.

Purdue is having their best season ever. Every single Purdue hoops fan in the area is going to be there because of the limited opportunities they have to see them

What some don't realize is how much things have "change" at THE RAC. Gone are the days when:

- students had all 3 sections (108-110) behind the basketball full for many big games

- those 3 sections came to about 5-feet from the baseline (not the ridiculous 12-feet or so nowadays.

- students had those 3 sections PLUS 3 sections (114-116) behind the RU bench

- students, for some big games (even during the Douby era), would fill 311-317. If you've never sat up there ever notice how much noise a few hundred visiting fans can make up there? Noise is multiplied 3-fold due to the ceiling (if not more)!

- the band didn't take up 20 rows of section 108 (nor were the bleachers pushed back 10 rows)

- the 100's were filled with a much, much younger crowd, let's be realistic. Even guys who sat there 20 years ago, in their 30's, are now in their 50's

...so aside from the "noise factor" not being nearly what it was, or could be, you add in the "holy shit we've sucked forever and an entire generation has passed by" factor and THIS - what you see/hear/don't hear, game-in and game-out, is what you're left with my friends.

*** and @bac2therac is right. This team DOES NOT come out to DESTROY its opponents, as it should, when playing at home. WTF??
