The RAC is Back (almost)

This team loves CJ Gettys

Took my sons (19 and 11) to our first game of the year. As stated for a small crowd with no students, due to day after Thanksgiving, but the crowd brought it. Was a good game and a great finish, when it got loud late, Harrfoed lost their edge, ayed timid Down the stretch. Their Big air balled a free throw that was a good 3 feet short of the iron in crunch time. Good job by the crowd, great job by the players.

Looking forward to hearing that place in B1G games. These players don't know how great of a home court advantage that place can be!

There were some hints today of the old place waking up. No students so it was kind of a surprise at how loud it did get. There are gonna be some RAC moments in conference season I think.

I know that Coach plays 10 guys and thought this would be a big advantage later in the game but it seemed like Hartford played 8 and they didn't really run out of gas until the last 5 minutes or so. Glad that he sits Gettys (also glad that Gettys KNOWS he has to sit and rest). At crunch time he had enough left in the tank to battle for position and make the put-back. You da man CJ! Deshawn Freeman - You are a special player and leader. You're going to get my Phil Sellers award.

Does anyone know what R the greatest comebacks in RU hoops history pointwise/pointwise given the time? Yesterday in top 5? Wisconsin 2015?

Some games where a lot happened within final minute/seconds
1) The triple OT win vs Ohio State (best RU game ever?) in the Championship Game (remember the 2 favorites Duke and St Johns lost then St. Johns came back from 15 points down in 2nd half to beat Dook) in the 1979 Holiday Classic at the Garden.
James Bailey stole? scored off of two inbounds with ~18. To win? that game in the 3rd OT (or was it to tie the game in OT1 or OT2?)

2) 1981? Home Game vs West Virginia at the RAC. RU blew about an 8 point lead with under a minute left. I believe the game was on CBS.

I don't have a stat book. But if recollection serves we were actually losing big to psu in the 89 championship albeit first half. I think it was like 22-7. The Villanova game with the four point play. I also remember a game at Pitt in the mid 90s where Santiago went off at the end and we won after being down by like 8 with a minute to go

there were St Bonnies and Duquense games in the 90s where I believe RU was down 18 and won those games. I think the first was won in OT in Olean

Don't forget the huge comeback against St. Bonaventure at the Barn to complete an undefeated regular season at 26-0. I think we were down by 11 with about 1:50 to play and we kept stealing the ball and got the W 85-80. We went on to win 2 games in the ECAC and 3 more in the NCAA to get to 31-0 going into the Final Four. I still would love to find a copy of that game. Two years in a row a VHS copy was in the Court Club auction many years ago so hopefully someone still has one of these.

In its fullest glory the RAC is so loud that you can literally scream at the top of your lungs without the person next to you being able to hear what you're saying. I've never seen another arena quite like it in that respect.

For all it's faults, I do love that place. I was a freshman for Waters' last season in '05-06 and only got to experience some of what the RAC can do. Finally, it appears to be awakening from its slumber.

I was traveling this week and missed the game, but it sounded very loud on the video clips. I love how at peak intensity, the RAC is insanely loud. And when RU has someone shooting a big 3 pointer (especially if he is a 3 pt specialist), the crowd noise rises as the shot goes up in the air....only to reach it's top pitch as the ball goes through the net. It's one of the top college bball arenas (when the team is decent/good).

I was at the St. Bonnies game. Place was wild and paint coming off the ceiling. Another fun part of the night was the students marching up to Old Queens and the ringing of the bell. Good times.

I was also at the Thanksgiving football game to go undefeated. I think my mother is still mad at me for leaving the family dinner to go to that game.
