Two schools in nearly identical situations, Maryland and Rutgers have essentially marketed this very similar recruiting campaign to "lock down" the local pipeline of elite athletes and begin ascending into the top tier of the Big Ten East division.
Early on it seemed RU had all the momentum on building their version of #DreamTeam16. But without yet locking up a 4 star or high profile NJ guy (top 10 in state type player). The momentum feels as if it is hallow until we get a leader to step up in the form of a commitment.
Meanwhile Maryland also awaiting some high profile targets which are naming them as the favorite but have not yet committed. It seems like the Maryland guys are buying into the #TheMovement a bit more than the Jersey guys are though.
This 2016 class is critical to the future of both programs. At this very point you could say both programs are almost exactly equal and perhaps even RU is slightly ahead given the recent string of bowl appearances (scarlet tinted glasses view). It will be very interesting to see how signing day 2016 looks for these two schools and how that projects out in 4-5 years time.
And today, the biggest piece in that puzzle for both teams is the coveted elite QB ready to commit and start the pipeline. It's not the end all, be all for either team, but the train leaves the station immediately for at least one of these teams today (presuming the finalists are RU & MD), while the other is stuck still looking for its pied piper to get it going.
LETS GET THIS THING GOING JERSEY BOYS! #DREAMTEAM16
