Thomas Jay Warren has created bronze works of Medgar Evers, Martin Luther King and the centerpiece to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Memorial, among others. His name can also be seen inscribed into the base of “The First Football Game” monument outside Rutgers Stadium that shows an eight foot tall bronze of a player in action to commemorate the first intercollegiate game ever played in 1869. Warren was inducted into the National Sculptor Society in 1997, the same year the statue was erected. The statue is surrounded by the “Class of ’56 Scarlet Walk” which is part of the Scarlet Brick Campaign containing names and messages imprinted and laid down on the path to the statue.

Glad you enjoyed it guys.

By the way, that iconic statue isn't indicative of football in 1869. It was probably based on photos of the 1881 team members although that outfit sounded close to what Rutgers wore against Princeton in 1878. Rutgers also switched from scarlet turbans (a.k.a. do-rags) to skull caps as early as 1875.
