Tim Wright Released by Pats

Turns out to be a bad trade for the Pats. They essentially are left with a 4th rd pick for a dumping the salary of 6 time pro-bowling Logan Mankins.

Not if you consider the money they saved on Mankins helped make the McCourty contract possible.

Also-- when you win the super bowl its hard to argue that the trade was bad. Even if it looks like it was.

he'll get picked up soon, he's already shown he can play
Not so sure about that with so little production and 2 year service his minimum salary would be $525k. Teams will look at rookies in order to save $200k

he's got 11 TD's in two years, he can play. Teams don't give a shit about 200k if it can help them win

Teams care an awful lot about how much they are paying back end guys. It the sole reason why the average NFL career in 3 years. Love Tim Wright but you only get a few years to separate you from the pack. He is smart, fast a good guy but their are 20 guys that are 200k cheaper. The NFL sucks with the contracts but the top players demand top money

Can he do anything else. Did he play on any special teams for the Pats?

He was waived, so he might be claimed before he even hits the open market. I predict New Orleans as his next destination. They've been working out veteran TEs and need a red zone threat after trading Graham.

I say that he will get picked up and be with a team for this coming season

I am jealous that a mid 20s kid is making 500k a year.

Tim was in for dinner where I work 2 weeks ago. One of the bartenders recognized him and had a nice conversation. Said he seems like a nice, humble guy.

Sorry I wasn't there but I was there when E5fdny and White Bus visited so it all evens out in the end lol.

I was wondering if this statistic included training camp players whose "career" lasts a couple of weeks. A quick search seems to imply this, with Goodell quoted as saying the number "adds is a lot of players who don’t make an NFL roster and it brings down the average." He also states that players who make an opening day roster average 6 years. The release also calculated that rookies who made an opening day roster lasted 6 years, and those who had three years of pension qualifying minimum lasted 7.

This might help Tim, find another spot
>What is the Minimum Salary Benefit Rule?

The Minimum Salary Benefit (MSB) Rule was put in place to allow veteran players to be signed to Cap-friendly deals instead of being replaced by cheaper, more Cap-friendly, younger players. The Minimum Salary Benefit allows veteran player to be signed to 1-year contracts with the applicable minimum salary (based on the player’s service time) and a small signing bonus (for 2015, $80K), but only have to count that player at the salary level of a player with only 2 years of service time (plus the bonus).

So, under the MSB rules, in 2015, a team can sign a 7-year veteran to the applicable minimum salary of $870K, with a bonus of $80K, and instead of counting $950K against the Cap, the player would only count $665K ($585K + 80K).<

But 2 year players like Tim might not get salary cap help to the team that signs them
